beretta mini cougar, whats the scoop with these? I saw one with an "INOX" finish. Looked rad. The mini in 45 acp sounds nice I think I read they came in 9. 40, and 45. Anyone know if they made a 45 with the inox finish? And finally how do they stack up against the new offerings of subcompact/compact?

I had one of the DAO 9mm versions in blue. It was a nice gun, reliable, accurate, well balanced. They're kind of thick/bulky. Functionally they're as good as anything else out there but there's other guns that are easier to conceal. I carry a Colt 1991A1 Compact off duty, much easier and more comfortable for concealed carry.

Don't know anything about the Inox finish.

bump, maybe these weren't that popular?
They whole Cougar line was not popular, which is the reason why Beretta discontinued them around 2006.

Beretta then shipped all the tooling to Stoeger Industries in Turkey.

Around 2007, Stoeger Industries then started making the Cougar series.

Currently, Stoeger Industries makes the Cougar (full-size) in 9x19mm, .40S&W and .45ACP and the Cougar Compact in 9x19mm.

Yes, they did.

I bought the minicougar 8045 a few years ago. Shoots nice. Too wide, IMO, to be a good CC gun, at least for me. I like it, though tend to favor my 1911's and sig 245.

Had a regular Cougar in 9mm, the Stoeger flavor. Great gun overall, no real complaints. Cougars are a well kept secret, IMHO they're the equal of any similar popular handgun out there, they just never caught on. If you're a fan of DA/SA guns they're defintely worth a look.

I think the only difference between the regular version and the mini version is the shorter grip. It's still going to be a pretty thick/bulky gun overall. It wouldn't be my first choice as a CCW gun for primarily that reason, I like my slim 1911s.

I saw this variant on that show Jericho that is what sparked the interest
it does look a bit bulky like you guys are saying.

You gotta go hold one in your hands, they're pretty thick little guns. Not saying you can't conceal one, but you'll probably notice it if you're carrying IWB.

Cougars in general are fine shooters. I had one in 40 S&W but sold it because I realized I didn't care for the 40 S&W cartridge. It was accurate and dependable. I'd buy another in 9mm or 45 in a heartbeat.

I think the reason they never cought on is because there are larger higher capacity guns out there that are better for home defense, and smaller guns better for concealed carry. They fall inbetween size classes.

However, they are a great range toy, and would be an excellent option for someone looking for a home defense or vehicle gun on a tight budget. I may buy a .45 to keep in my truck.
