Although it is no longer made by Beretta, I've had my eye on a real nice 95%-98% rating mini cougar 45 ACP. Does anyone have any info on them? Good or Bad I would like to hear info/opinions. Thanks in advance.:)

Hey there, welcome to the forums. If you do a quick search, I think you'll find a couple reviews on the Beretta, one was done just a month or so ago by George Hill. It got pretty favorable reviews if I remember correctly. Good luck:)

No longer made? I it's in the Beretta catalog, sitting right here on my desk... Hmmm.. this is the 2003 catalog. Anyone have a 2004?

My review of the Cougar is favorable, but I do point out two details that need work... if they are still being made. Yeah, I know... A little late in the season... but they remain vertually unknown guns to most shooters. My local gun shop that STOCKS Beretta guns said "The Beretta What?" when I asked about getting one in. They just came out with the 8000L Cougar just a few months ago. Are you sure they stopped making them or are you just not seeing them around?

Beretta mini cougar

George,

Thanks for the reply. As far as I've been told or have seen on another forum the mini cougar has been outsed, but then I have no 2004 catalog nor have i called beretta to confirm. You could be correct in that they have not done away with the mini cougar. After reading your post ( review) on yours I guess my question is: Is it a IWB type pistol for ccw? I sort of prefer IWB but do have several pistols/revolvers which are more comfortable in the OWB, than the IWB. Again, thanks for your reply and others who have replyed.

If they dropped the .45 Mini Cougar, then that would be truly regrettable.

Yes, you can carry it IWB, but you would have to find a good holster specifically for the Cougar to do so. The shortened grip makes concealment very easy, and I carry it in a belt slide with nothing more than a T shirt over it.

yes..when telling gun store folks about the cougar (in any caliber)..the reply is.."really..never heard of it.."

Last Saturday I let a bunch of shooters try the little kitty, but no one liked the Mini's grip. "Too Short" they say.
Well, Yeah, it's short - it's for CCW. That shortness makes the gun just up and disappear on you. Yet even thought it's short - IMHO - it remains just as shootable as the full sized Cougar or the Mini with the extended mag.

I really think there is only ONE other handgun in this gun's class... and that is the SIG P245.

I owned an 8045 Mini-cougar, one of only two guns I ever sold, and I only regret it sometimes...

I think it was the second gun I bought, and I bought it for carry. Later, I bought other carry guns, and found that (especially after getting into 1911s!!!) the safety on the Cougar, like all Berettas, is not intuitive because it is the reverse of others (up is fire, down is safe). I did really like the gun though, I found the grip on the full size Cougars to be one of the most comfortable I've heald.

The only Berettas I'll own now are "G" models = decocker/no safety like my SIGs. The only other complaint I've heard about the Cougars is that some of them seem to leave the factory with very heavy triggers - but that's easy to fix.

Prices for the Cougars? Let's see... They are generally around 450 to 500 but the MSRP is over 700. So the prices are all over the place... best to shop around, find the one that is in the best condition where the seller/dealer isn't smoking crack like they often do on Gunbroker.com (which by the way sucks to a shockingly high degree - search auction arms or some other gun auction site first).

Heavy trigger? Oh yeah... on mine a DA shot is only for contact shot range. It's somewhere between 12 pounds to "Freaking Ton". But it is pretty smooth and that helps... but man. LTT needs to work on this gun STAT and he just may later this season after a certain other gun arrives at least.
