Beretta Nano 9mm

Does anyone know anything or have experience with Beretta's Nano 9mm. Beretta makes good stuff and I'm hoping this gun upholds the Beretta reputation. It almost looks like the Taurus TCP.

I handled one at the gun show a week ago. The grip felt really crowded and short, much more so than a Kahr PM9. Overall, the gun just felt very uncomfortable in my hand. The shape of it was not ergonomic at all.

I think it is due to the fact that the Beretta has it's trigger mechanism above the trigger which pushes the trigger down further away from the slide. A Kahr has the trigger mechanism offset from the trigger in some way that keeps the trigger much higher up toward the slide. The end result is that the Kahr has more grip to hold onto, and feels much more ergonomic than the Beretta.

I would pick the Kahr over the nano on the feel alone, regardless of how reliable the Beretta ends up being. The Kahr is smaller, lighter, and better designed for the human hand. It looks like an experienced company like Beretta, who has waited so long to get into the subcompact 9mm game, would at least try to one-up the competition, but the Nano is NOT a step forward in my opinion.

^Exactly! Compared to the PM/CM9 the Nano misses.

Side by side with a Kahr the Nano comes off as bulky and top heavy. The trigger... you'd think with a integrated trigger safety they would have put something nice in there, instead you get a clunky heavy pull. Of all the compact nines the Kahr still has the smoothest. Even without ANY safeties the Kahr still manages to have a lighter pull.

For the record, I haven't shot or held one. However, from my observation, people want smaller guns to walk around with, either to match wardrobe or not having to mess with multiple holsters etc.

Personally I don't want a "pocket" gun but for those that do, more (or technically less ) power to you. If the market has a demand for the smallest, most concealable, deep cover gun, Beretta answered the call. For the one random day that you'll be attacked with deadly force, it most likely won't be from 50' away, it'll be 5' or less. It's not for comfortable shooting, it's for comfortable carrying.

I checked out a Nano a couple of months ago and I just didn't care for the design or the ergos on it. The grip seemed like it was too vertical and too short in its presentation, making it feel uncomfortable and awkward in my hand. The other thing I didn't like about it was the heavy and somewhat gritty trigger pull that it had. Granted that may have just been that one particular model, but both things didn't seem to add up to a favorable design in a small 9mm.

I've had one for a little over a month. I had about 2% FTE where it was either left in the chamber or stove piped. Sent back to Beretta and yesterday fired 150 rounds w/ no problems.

Over on the Beretta forum there is a lot of discussion on this. Some have had no problems others see the same 2% failure I did. The feeling is that it is an extractor QC problem. They replaced mine.

I like the gun. Shoots accurately and recoil ain't that bad.

From handling it at the store, short grip and top-heavy (though it may balance out with a loaded mag). I have also heard several reports of FTE problems. For nearly the same weight and size (and price) you can get a S&W M&P Shield (which has gotten much better early reports) or the proven Glock 26 or 27 (slightly thicker, I know).

Tigerjeebs, I agree, hickhock45 makes GREAT YouTube reviews. He's the first person I look for on YouTube whenever I'm considering a new pistol purchase.

OP, I really like the idea of the Nano and my local range has one to rent. I plan on shooting tomorrow and if i do ill rent it and give ya some feedback. Hope I don't like it too much because ill be in trouble when i get home if you know what i mean lol... I'm sure most of you guys get what I'm sayin.

I have a Nano an love the gun

I have put about 500 rounds through the gun with no problems whatsoever. Thee gun is very accurate and reliable. It has become my primary carry gun. I also own a Kahr PM9 and Kahr P380 which are also fine guns, but I shoot the Nano far more accurately than the Kahrs. The Nano and PM9 are very similar in size. Although the Kahr PM9 is a bit Smaller. IMO the Nano is an excellent choice for concealed carry.

Not one-upped, perhaps, but the slightly longer and taller PF-9 is a bit lighter.

The Rorbaugh R9 is smaller and lighter than the PM9, but it also has problems associated with it's size, so although they beat Kahr in the dimensions game, they lost in maintenance and reliability (and price).

The Nano? It kinda failed generally speaking when compared to the above and others.

I think the Nano is a nice gun, but a victim of poor timing, coming to market between the Kahr CM9 (lower-priced but still very high quality version of PM9) and the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield (that everyone seems to be abuzz about).
