I've been eyeing the Beretta Nano since it was released a few years ago. Like many, I resisted the urge to run out and buy one until some of the early "bugs" were worked out. This pistol got an unfortunate reputation for "failure to extract" malfunctions early on but I had high hopes that Beretta had already worked out the kinks. That brings us to today.
I took possession of my new Nano today (serial number 092xxx) and after a field strip, cleaning, and lubrication headed to the range hoping for the best. First shot - failure to extract. Not kidding, the FIRST SHOT! I ended up running around 100 rounds of ammo from three different brands (all of it 124 grain - Winchester NATO, RWS, American Eagle). Of the 100 rounds fired I had around 35 FTE malfunctions. Yes, thats right. THIRTY FIVE! The malfunctions were spread evenly across all three brands. I am a fairly experienced pistol shooter and was very conscious not to limp wrist the gun. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I am by no means a Beretta brand basher (as I own and enjoy several other of their pistols) but really wish they would get their act together with this gun. After doing a little online searching, it seems this problem has plagued the Nano since its introduction.
At any rate, I called the nice folks at Beretta and they are sending me a prepaid UPS label to return it for service. Can't complain about that. I'm hoping for the best as I really like the way the little gun shoots and feels. Its accuracy in my hands seemed fairly good as well. Hopefully Beretta can get it fixed and turned around fairly quickly.
