Just got an "advisory" from my local gunshop that he has one in; Beretta Px4 Storm subcompact in .40 SW. After an article in Outdoor Life, I am in serious deliberation for CCW. Anyone else hear anything....pro/con..?? General thoughts? It will only come in 9 or .40. $650ish

The subcompacts are out?! Woohoo! After reading the reports on the regular PX4, I'm anxious to hear about the new, smaller model. Hopefully it's as accurate, reliable, and easy to shoot as its bigger brother.

Keep in mind the sub compact does NOT have the rotating barrel system that makes the bigger brother known for being "easy to shoot." Still looks like it will be a nice design, but it's the browning tilt instead of a rotating barrel.

To CPShooter

Sir,

I take that you've some concern about it being a Browning tilt vs. rotating lug. I'd appreciate your explanation. Just trying to educate me prior to expenditure of considerable $$. :)

Though I'm not CPShooter, as I understand it, the full-size (with rotating barrel) channels a good bit of energy into the rotation, reducing the felt recoil. If I'm incorrect, please correct me.

The full size Px4's both, in 9mm and 40cal, have rotating barrels, which do not tilt, but simply rotate to receive the next round, while at the same time, absorbing recoil, which makes both models comfy (forgiving) shooters.

The SC's are too short, barrel-wise, to use this, so they're going with tilt-up barrels, for chambering the next round, like 1911's/Sigs, etc., which means with small guns, big calibers, more kick/snap, and it will be all in the grip of those that can fit those tiny guns in a comfy, 2-hand grip.

FYI (for your information), I doubt seriously if your gun dealer "has one, a SC 40cal, in stock", as Beretta announced they "hope to start first deliverys of the first SC's in Jan 08", and most likely, from another Beretta source, "will be in 9mm first".

Hold on to your hard earned money, meaning, don't send any to hold one, cause if what he says he has, then I'm betting he has a full size Px4 40cal, which are going for anywhere, NIB, from 450 - 650 bucks, on average.

Safe flying to ya, PIC here as well.. :)

Thanks.

The considerate replies are informative; but please know that the "advisory" I spoke of was an innocent mistake from an overzealous gunshop clerk. It was a Px4 Storm, but not the SC.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooo...............

Beretta says these are shipping in January 2008. Last I checked, it's February. Anyone seen one yet?
