So, first and foremost, I am not looking to start a which is better debate. I own both, like both, and personally think the Sig is a better shooting gun. So I will leave that there.

I am going through a bit of an arsenal downsizing and trying to get to a place where whatever I pick up for home protection, target or carry, form and function are similar. This for both ease of function and combat readiness.

Furthermore, while I am a decent shooter, I am not a competitive shooter and to be quite honest, my 9mm's are just for protection and some target fun. I reload 9's but not as much or as accuratly as I do 357, 44 or 45. Those calibers and guns I load more for longer range target accuracy. The 9's are focused on sub-25 yard body shots.

I have owned a Beretta PX4 Storm Subcompact for many years now and really like the gun. It has served me very well as a primary cary and is decently accurate.

I have recently started looking at its bigger brothers the Compact and the fill size PX4's. All good guns, though pretty underrated. I have owned a Cougar in the past, but truly like th design of the Storm series.

Today, I also own for carry and home protection a Sig P228 Legion and P226 Tacops. Like I said at the first, these are both superb guns. Absolute tack drivers. I have never owned a finer set of pistols. They fit my hand well and shoot to aim point very naturally.

Both are relatively pricey though and that has always made me a bit nervous. More from the thought of loss in a fire or home theft.

Furthermore, both guns out shoot me. Yes, they both make me a better shooter because their custom shop elements make them shoot better than anything else I have owned. What you would expect from a factory custom gun.

But of late I have been questioning whether I need two $1000 guns to do what, effectively, a full compliment of sizes of Storm's could do and I could recoupe probalby a solid $1000 of investment.

I have, in the past, been pretty partial to mostaly metal frame guns. Thus, the primary reason (other than Sig's quality reputation) I own them. The Sig's took the place of a group of 1911's I used to own that I just simply stopped shooting and carrying.

So, just looking for some "constructive" thoughts on this idea. Granted, I know I am downgrading a bit, but still feel that the Beretta's are perfectly viable for what I will use them for. I am a bit concerned over customer service between the two, as I do believe Sig to be superior in this area. However, I have rarely had to use either in the past.

Edit: With either platform parts interchangability is a key component for me.

Give me your thoughts.

I'd dump the Berettas and keep the Sigs. I used both in the mil and I found the Sig to be a much better pistol.

My philosophy is to have one excellent pistol for each purpose – and I don't define purposes too narrowly:
HD – SIG P226 X5 Comp
CCW – SIG P238
CF target pistol – the same X5
RF target pistol – Beretta 87 Target

So 3 pistols, total. The fewer guns you have, the better you know each of them, and the more you can afford to pay for each of them.

I would also keep the SIGs. When you can find any gun that is reliable, durable, and accurate; you should hang on to it.

Pipesmoker- if you like the 87 Beretta for target practice, have at it. But since your HD is a 226, have you ever considered moving to a 22 Sig mosquito to have the same platform in RF as your HD? Just wondering.

No, for several reasons:
1. The Mosquito is SA/DA, and I'm a SAO guy.
2. The Mosquito doesn't have click-adjustable sights.
3. I've heard too many bad stories about the Mosquito's reliability, whereas my 87T is very reliable with most all ammo.
4. I already have the 87T.
5. I think my 87T is the best-looking .22 target pistol in current production. And its fit & finish is first class.
6. The 87T's integral Weaver rail makes mounting a red dot sight a snap. I haven't done that yet, but the OKO is calling me…

But sincere thanks for the suggestion. I also considered the SIG Trailside, but liked the 87T better.

OK, I didn't know all that. I have a Ruger .22 cause Glock doesn't make a .22. Isn't your 226 DA/SA? (I call them transitional double action)

Thanks for the input all. After some contemplation and your input I think I will keep the Sigs. Seems to be the general consensus.

My SIG P226 X5 Competition is SAO. Its frame safety is excellent, with crisp, positive detents, yet I can easily move it to SAFE or FIRE positions without shifting my grip.
