Saw this Beretta Silver Snipe 12GA O/U and, while I don't know a dang thing about this model, it caught my eye and I traded (cheap) for it. Stock is dinged up, but metal and bore are excellent. Does anybody know anything about this particular model? It works just great, still have to check how it actually patterns. Any info on it would be appreciated.

Man, I hate to see a nice guy like you get stuck with a junker like these, so I'll help you out. Send it here and I'll foist it off on some fool.Heh,heh...

Seriously, good shotgun. Congrats....

Its looking like maybe the thing for pheasants and blue grouse. Dave I sure do appreciate your kind and generous offer:rolleyes: , but I've become infatuated with it:neener: Thanks!

The Silver owners I know seem a happy lot, and employ them well for the most part.

I'd be loath to run non tox loads through those tight bores, but that's why we have 870s.

Pattern it. There may be a very good reason why it was such a bargain. Most shoot OK.

The Snipes were fairly nice guns, and precursors to the 686 line. The biggest problem I have found is that they are impossible to find parts for, which means the smith has to be able to fabricate the needed items.

They are light, and fairly well balanced, so as long as it works, use it.

Thanks, I will use it and pattern it. It has a surprisingly pleasant recoil- only plan to run #6-7 1/2 lead thru it. :p

I bought my Silver Snipe in about 1959 or '60, had a Simmons ventilated rib put on it and have bagged literally hundreds of pheasants with it in the intervening years.

I have never had a problem with it . . . except on one spring turkey hunt. The second barrel failed to fire. Put a shot of WD40 into the firing pin hole, loosened up the crud that had gotten in the works and it worked fine. Did a better job of cleaning it when I got back from the hunt.

Years of hunting pheasants took a toll on the finish of the stock, so this past winter I refinished it with Birchwood-Casey Tru-oil. I thinks it looks better than the original now.

It's not for sale.

Ditto above post + I got mine 10 years latter. Never missfired. I took the stock off in 94 when I got my large Ultrasonic tank and cleaned the action and relubed. My son is using it for upland game now!
