Beretta Vertec… any real improvement?

Hello friends and neighbors,

There is a slightly used Beretta Vertec for sale in my area that is about 99% and has CT laser grips on it. Really nice shape. Asking price is $779 which seems a bit high but I guess with the laser grips, ok.

I'm wondering, what is the difference besides the slightly different exterior appearance between the Vertec vs. the normal 92/96 series of pistols?

A search didn't find me a whole lot of relevant info, or I missed it.

I think they were trying to tap into the flat or arched mainspring debate popular among 1911 enthusiasts. With only arched mainspring houses for years, Beretta put out the Vertec and said, "hey, now we have flat one, too!" Also, Vertec pistols more readily accept night sights, which was a consideration prior to the introduction of the 92A1/96A1.

Within the Beretta community, it might command a bit higher of a price simply due to the fact that it's out of production. From a more practical standpoint, get yourself a PX4 with interchangeable backstraps and pick the one that's right for you.

I do like the PX4 but am more interested in an all metal gun. It fit my hand well. How hard is it to find parts? Can they still be found on the Internet pretty easily?

All standard 92 parts fit the vertec. That is not an issue. Only the grips are different. And, they are still not that hard to find.

As primarily a 1911 shooter, with smaller hands, I really liked the Vertec model when they came out. It feels more 1911ish, and is more friendly to those with smaller hands. I was surprised when Beretta dropped the model from the line-up. Of course, I was also surprised they dropped the Elite 1A, Elite II, G model, etc.

I think it's a good pistol.

Shorter trigger reach than a 92FS, different grip angle, but still takes 92 series mags which is nice.

As mentioned, sights can be changed easily and you have a rail on it.

Price is a bit high I think. See what he would take for it without the laser grips, some people value those for a lot more than they are worth to me.

Blued or stainless? 9mm or .40?

Yeah the price is a bit much. Like I said though it looks like it had maybe a 50 rounds put through it and has been doing nightstand duty ever since.

Plus the laser grips I think is why they have priced high. I want a range gun though so I don't really care about the laser.

If it is stainless, a vertec and comes with a CT laser grip, then the price is appropriate. The laser is all but impossible to find today as they were made in small numbers. It has a noticeably shorter reach to the trigger, especially in SA. The action is perhaps the smoothest of any gun I own. A real jewel IMHO. I'd haggle but the laser makes the price at least justifiable.

And, if, what you say the condition is along with the "limited" laser grips it comes with, of which, all you will need is batteries at some point and if something were to go wrong with the laser grips, CT lasers will fix it and their CS is top notch..

Study it long, you'll play it wrong - is an old saying that in this case, you're not the only one looking at this gun as "price" is "in the hands of the buyer/owner" and you get what you pay for, least in my book, and a good investment, long term is my bet, keeps one "happy"

For whatever reason, I never took to the railed 92/96 guns.

The Vertec is the only Model 92 that I actually feel comfortable with using it. The flat backstrap is very ergonomic, especially if you have small hands like I do. The distance to the trigger also seems to be shorter making proper finger placement much less of a stretch than with the standard Model 92.

I also find it more comfortable than the standard 92. I'm not sure if I'd like it with the laser grips, though. I would be afraid it would make it too fat for me. If it works for you, though, go for it.

Price is more than fair. If you like it buy it. Another option if you want something different than the standard 92 is Beretta's new stainless compact 92 with the rail. The Vertec will keep its value because they are hard to find. I sold a 92 Steel version a couple of years ago and regret it deeply now that I have seen them sell for $2,000+ on GB. Despite what some forums say, I have nothing but positive things to say about Beretta pistols and shotguns. The 92 pistols are a little large for carry, but if God forbid I ever have to go into battle, I would carry a 92 pistol.

I like the regular 92FS, not a fan of the Vertec. But the whole grip thing is just personal preference anyway.

I like the vertec

I found a demo BERETTA 96D VERTEC in .40 S&W for $449.00 and like the way it handles. I would love to find one in 9m.m.

I stand 5'8", so the smaller circumference of the grip is an improvement in handling for me. Other than that, it is a BERETTA 96D with a rail, which is another positive feature. I added a light to mine and use it for a home gun.
