Is this rifle worth $1,800? It lists for $2,190 ish. I don't mind spending the $$$ but I don't know much of anything about this gun or company. I really respect all of your opinions and would like to know if this is a good buy or my money would be better spent elsewhere. The few write-up's seem quite positive. However, it seems anyone with money can have nice things said about them. Thanks all!

Bergara makes barrels for the most part... for companies like Thompson center and cva... for that price I'd have a savage lrp

CANNONMAN, I though you already bought the rifle. Regardless, I'd pay $1,800 for a Bergara over anything from Savage every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I know of a rifle company who had a hard time keeping up with demand so looked to Savage as a possible vendor for barrels. After the first shipment of 50 first articles for inspection, the company in question decided to add capability in-house because the barrels were so bad. Sure, Bergara is a barrel company but the barrel is a critical part of the rifle. If Krieger made rifles they wouldn't be able to keep up with the orders.

It's not hard to make an accurate rifle. There are gunsmiths all over the country capable of buying a quality barrel blank, reaming a tight chamber and screwing it onto a decent action and slapping it into a decent stock for around $3,000. The challenge is making an accurate system that not only shoots well but runs well under a variety of conditions. It needs to shoot good hot, cold, clean or dirty. Running the bolt should be smooth, easy and fast. Rounds need to feed from the magazine smoothly and quickly without causing misfeeds or damaging the bullet or case. Magazines need to be easy and fast to insert and remove. I've taken precision courses with timed drills and that really separates the wheat from the chaff when it comes to the "system". You might be surprised by how many rifles become jamomatics when you start running the bolt fast. Taking a rifle to the range, sitting it on a bench, shooting a round and then sitting there to admire your work while you wait for the barrel to cool doesn't reveal much in the way of limitations of the system. Now put five rounds down the barrel in 15 seconds or less while resting the rifle on the magazine and see what happens.

Thanks, I got ahead of myself in admiration of a friend of mine who owns this and when one came up for sale in a gun show my wife got it for me. I apologies for a poor post or getting time and ownership out of line. I guess I'm not to good at posting either. I once asked about what to buy for long distance and hunting and got creamed for wanting to hunt at long distance. That was NEVER my intention. My fault. I don't mind spending the money I just don't want to buy an expensive week link in the chain of being able to post a range pic similar to yours, MCMXI. I also apologies to bikemutt if I have offended you with this or any of my posts. I am certain that you folks have forgotten more than I will ever know. My intention was and continues to be to seek advice and knowledge. I have no idea what "^^^this" means?

^^^ this

Means see the above post and I agree with it. :) There are several ways to express it for example ^this^ would be another way meaning the same thing.

T/C makes their own barrels, that's why S&W bought them. Bergara makes aftermarket barrels for the Contender, G1 and Encore, but they are Bergara barrels not T/C.

There's a small article on Bergara in the last Rifleman magazine. Seems they've teamed up with some ex-military sniper & gunsmith types to produce rifles. Don't know much about them otherwise. Heck, you've got one, you ought to be telling us if it's a good deal or not. Can we get a range report?

I'd love to show this off to you. I put up some pics soon. Why you guys are so important to me: I bought a .308 because I trusted my gun dealer and friend. Very pretty gun. $2,500. The literature stated that the owners/manufactures would put any part of any gun they sold on their own guns. Long story short. The trigger was like trying to break a match in a bowl of oatmeal. [replacement cost $250] With the best sold ammunitions available the groups were all in the 5" range @ 100yds.. The manufacture suggests selling it. I wouldn't sell it without being disgusted with myself. I have a lot of respect for the knowledge passed along here. Anyway, thanks.

Ditto Farmboy78 love my LRP. Shot my best groups with it my 60th bday present. Rifle Vortex scope bipod reloading dies everything around $1600 total not bad. Hard go wrong Savage.

I hear ya, I had a vortex viper hst on mine... but I recently had the muzzle threaded and bought 2 long range scopes. One of which (ior 3-18x42 ffp) was put on my lrp. I haven't even had a chance to zero it due to the constant rain here.
