I'm loading some Berger 168 gr Match VLD's in .308 Win.
I have read the tech bulletins on Berger's website regarding seating depths up to (jumping) and touching the lands at varying intervals.
I'm just asking for some ballpark COL's from you. I realize I need to work this data up myself per my rifle. When I chamber a loose bullet in a resized case trimmed to 2.005" I am getting 2.935" COL which seems way too long to me. It does appear that a width measurement of the bullet is seated about that deep but still. Would like to hear your COL's for this bullet.
Thanks

the black sharpie line is where the bullet was seated as the bullet touched the lands in my rifle. it appears to me it isn't seated deep enough, but i'm just not sure

I'm aware of the rule of thumb that the caliber of bullet in this case 0.308" and should be seated thus deep, well, if I follow that, I'm not touching the lands. maybe i'm trying too hard.
anyone? where you at RC??

Finding OAL 308 win.

Maximum OAL is 2.810" http://www.saami.org/PubResources/CC_Drawings/Rifle/308%20Winchester.pdf Has to fit the magazine and chamber freely. I start with the shanks full diameter (not BT) at the neck shoulder junction and go from there. Seating into the lands is over rated. A jump is ok.
