I thought I had run across just about every make and model of gun imaginable. Today a kid stopped by my office looking to get rid of his 1911 to come up with some cash to pay for his wedding. The locals pointed him in my direction assuming I may be interested. The gun is a Bersa American Classic. 8+1 with 5 1/8" barrel. Aftermarket wood grips. He was looking for $200.00. The gun appears to be nearly new. He claims he hasn't cleand it and just got a few months back. Anybody ever play with these before?

Bersa doesn't make a 1911. The American Classic is made in the Philippines by Metro Arms some places like Buds list them as a Bersa 1911 WRONG The only thing they have in common is they are imported by same people . The imported uses the same Warranty centers for them as he does the Bersa Line. Their is no other connection Two hundred was a steal . They are around 450 and this year will near 500 . I have one of the First in American and they are the best bang for the price . Mine is also flawless with every brand of factory HP I have tried. Every body changes out the grips As the factory are not up to quality of the rest of the pistol. This pistols are also 1911 compatible. I have swapped some colt parts to check and they have fit fine. At 200 if no signs of a dremal tool job I would buy

http://bersatalk.com. Ask the owners I have a 1911/American classic section their.

Thanks for the input guys. Gun seems to work fine, and for $200 for a 1911 platform there was no way to pass it up. I ran a box through it yesterday, and it shot better than I have the capabilities.

The American Classic 1911 is a great, for the price. I've never seen them under Bersa, since Metro-Arms makes them. Great gun, the only problem I have seen or heard of the the finish wearing off, similar to a Sig's nitron finish coming off and the steel peeking through, but for 200 bucks!! Heck Yeah!

I like mine more than my Springfield Loaded, a truely great 1911 at a great price. I have yet toget a FTF or FTE in close to 1000 rounds! Congrats, you will love it.

Been playing with it a little more the last few days. Seems to be a well built pistol. No FTE at this point. I think I like the feel of it a little more than my Kimber, but not quite as much as the Taurus I picked up a couple of months ago.

American classic... made in the Philippines

I wonder why they didn't call it "Phillippino Classic"

Is that all that's left of American manufacturing.... the "American" brand?

Congrats on the great find... people sure seem to be happy with their Armscorp. products coming out of the PI.... sounds like Metro Arms is well put together as well.
