Bar-Sto was the favorite, years ago, but who's making the best (yep, I'm asking for objective opinions here, I know) replacement barrel now?

Thanks!

Trisha

Kart barrels seem to get a lot of good press. I like the fact that they are carbon steel rather than stainless, not that I have metallurgical data that says it's better, but I can finish it anyway I want...blue, park, whatever...

Kart

Hard to beat a Kart for the money. The EZ-Fit version has produced very good results for the amount of work involved, so I understand, and it even comes with instructions. Storm Lake also gets good reports.

Luck to ya!

The best barrel is the one that is precisely fitted to your 1911 by a really good gunsmith. Even a Colt barrel that has been welded and fitted can be a true tack driver. A Bar-Sto, Kart, Ed Brown, Storm Lake, or Wilson barrel with a sloppy fit is going to be no better than a Colt barrel that has an equally poor fit.

Yes! I should have mentioned that. The way the barrel is fitted means
more than a particular brand name. If the rifling and crown are good,
the fitting will make or break it.

Kudos stans! Good point.

I have a Bar-sto in one of mine (.45 ACP) and an Ed Brown in another (.357 SIG). I consider both of them to be absolutely top notch.

:D

I do understand about the complexities of fit and lock-up - thanks for the reminder (though right now that's a bit like putting the cart in front of the horse - one thing at a time for me).

Good Question

Trisha...just spill the beans willya? Your buiding a gun aren't you? C'mon share.:D

My buddy likes Schuemann, I dunno why, never asked. So with Trisha obviously up to something we might as well learn the differences and the ramps. Experiences from the folks here, I'm gonna learn from Trisha'a question and the answers given. :)

(((sigh)))

My Delta Elite project.

Too, I have a 1970's Springfield Trophy Match that is ready for a new barrel. Lug/hood/link fit is hoplessly out of my league, and it'll probably be 2-3 months before I'm ready to have the barrel fitted (on permanent disability it's a slow process to accumulate the funds).

I've been told I'm painfully deliberate when it comes to getting work done on our handguns, but I look for perfection from a professional, not just 'good enough.'

The Delta Elite will be required to function flawlessly with deep JHP's, TC's, and SWC match. The SA TM barrel is simply getting worn out, but is otherwise tight (meticulous maintenance, pins, etc).

My Delta Elite, with no modifications, has been 100% reliable with three different Colt magazines. This is the only 1911 that I have that will feed a magazine full of empties from all of its mags! I don't know, maybe I just got a good one, maybe there is something magical about the case diameter and cartridge length of the 10mm, but this one has been impressive in the little that I have shot it.
