I'm with Wild Alaska...I'll take something from the Colt custom shop. Polished stainless steel or deep blue with rosewood grips...just no front serrations or artwork on the slide.

Any Ed Brown 1911 would be the only thing I would recommend.

Of mass market 1911 style guns you can buy off the shelf, everybody is shipping too many turkeys that don't work right out of the box or that have something (MIM) break after a few hundred rounds! A high enough percentage are good to keep the profits up, but the customer is the QA/QC department these days.

Custom guns I don't know, I've never been able to bring myself to spend more than $650 on any handgun, (althouh a few I have are worth a bit more than that now).

I am not a big 1911 fan (maybe the only one here that isn't ), but I will vote for Rock River Arms being the best 1911 for the money.

Any 1911? I want the full-auto Bul M5... If I had to come back to reality, I'd probably have one built by a local 'smith.
