I've always carried either thumb-break leather or kydex 'snap-in' holsters, but recently have been looking at something like a Serpa or the 5.11 Thumb Drive for a little extra security. Problem is that some events will not allow Serpas and initial reviews of the ThumbDrive are not good (bad grip positioning to activate thumb switch requires regripping during draw).

Are there other Glock-friendly holsters out there utilizing similar second locking mechanisms but without the pitfalls (or perceived pitfalls) of the Serpa or the ThumbDrive?

I need something that I can quickly snap into (no time to snap a thumb break together during a stage or pull a lanyard up) but offers just one more level of retention that works as designed and allows fast and easy draws?

I use the Blackhawk Serpa level 2 sportster for my IDPA matches, it's a paddle holster with a trigger finger actuated release as well as the "pinch" adjustable retention design, the pinch is adjustable. Since it's angle adjustable via bolts and is very close to the body it's IDPA legal. I would have to assume the you mean the "removable" styles of Serpa holsters are not legal for your competitions. I use it with my glock 22 and previously with my 17 it's very secure and safe, at least in my experience.

The Serpas are not allowed in some comps because they feel the position of the index finger can inadvertently cause an ND on drawing. Whether I agree or not, their game ... their rules. :(

There may not be any real alternatives. I'm picking up another Glock next week, a G35, and will probably just buy another Fobus paddle rig. I like the idea of the 5.11 thumb break, but too many guys have told and even shown me how the thumb button isn't working for a good high-web grip.

Hmm, I find that unusual as I have to use my trigger finger straight out to release my pistol, and I can't touch the trigger till it's fully clear of the holster. My finger is extended during the draw just like it is whenever I'm moving or or reloading, but as you say, it's their rules. I can't imagine having to resnap a leather thumbstrap during a competition. So they don't allow holsters like yaqui slides either?
