What would you pick? I'm shopping around and need to make up my mind. Please help me. Thanks for your input!

Sig 229 SAS, feels great, carries even better. Shot hundreds of rounds without a problem. Switch between that and my SW1911pd commander size in .45acp.

I carry a Glock 23 the majority of the time. It is just big enough to fit the hand but still small enough to conceal. I usually use an IWB holster. When I need something smaller I go with the Glock 27.

Both have been great. No problems. The Glock 27 is also my duty back-up.

+1 on the 229. Be it an SAS, DAK, or DA/SA, you can't go wrong with one. I've got a DAK, and have both the .40 and .357SIG barrels for it. I believe it is the finest .40 handgun ever made.

3 things..

...

Price.. 500 - 600 range, or 800 - 1000 range.

Weight and balance, point to aim, most natural feel, both in grip, and arm's, as if, part of your body..

800 -1000 bucks: Sig P229 Carry

CCW size, and I would say, yep Sig P229 Carry is an awesome gun, and would agree that SAO is far better than DA/SA. But if you want DA/SA, then it can be had in Sig P229 as well, but so is the Beretta Px4 40cal.

500 - 600 bucks: Beretta Px4 40cal

But, be sure and look, and feel, the Px4 40, both in those areas mentioned above, and the big difference in the DA/SA trigger pull weights of both. You'll find the Beretta is about a pound lighter in both modes, making for a beautiful, sweet, smooth, DA and SA feel.

LS

PS. IIRC, if you go with a P229 40cal Carry, I think you can swap barrels, and have a 357 sig, or swap barrels and mags and have a 9mm, as well, for a 3 in 1 gun, at a fraction of the price of all three in separate guns.

A rough tabulation of my carry tools AKA the "Bear" family
(you know, right to keep and bear arms).

Daddy Bear (75% of the time) SIG 229
Momma Bear (10% of the time) Taurus Millennium Pro PT-140
Baby Bear (15% of the time) Kel-Tec P-3AT

a sig 239 in 40 is so close to being an equal to my colt defender 3 out of 4 seasons here in CT , you are splitting hairs. winter=230gr ball acp cause hp40 will clog up & not expand through heavy winter layered clothes (test it ). works for me, perhaps........?

The SAS Sigs are pretty nice, especially the single stack version, is that the 229? I also like the compact S&W M&P. Lotta ampersands there :)

Taurus Millennium PT140, I also have a P-40 that is real concealable, but it is a little tough to shoot many rounds through.

You're gonna have to narrow it down here... an easy way to answer your question is "get what suits you best," but since you are asking for biased opinions here, we need more info about what you like/don't like in a carry piece. (ie: price range, features, dimensions, weight, accuracy, aesthetics, ergonomic preferences?)

You just have to narrow it down or else you will get 100 different answers in here ranging from Glock to CZ to Sig to Kahr, etc. In other words, all you're gonna get is a bunch of biased crap that doesn't pertain to your needs at all

i carry a glock 26, but since you're asking about .40's, i'll say the G27. but....just yesterday a friend walked in with a new sig 229,dang, what a sweet unit !! i'm gonna have to go with those here recommending the sig. i've had a sig 226 for years, but would never carry it, too big. the 229 felt very carry-able.

Was there a 229 "Carry" that's discontinued? I thought only the 220 had a "Carry" model with the shortened barrel. Or are you referring the 229 as the Carry version of the 226?
