Best .45acp

So I love 1911's but I want a .45 that isn't a 1911. Gotta diversify the portfolio you know . I want a .45 that is reasonably easy to carry, a grip somewhere between a 1911 and an XD in size, reliable, and easy to dissasemble/clean.
I prefer SA guns, but as long as it has a GOOD trigger I can live with it.
I "think" I want a SIG p220 carry, but I haven't shot the 220, only the p228 and p239 both in 9mm.

I've had my P220R Carry DAK with NS for about a month. I'm very pleased with it...now.

Like many other DAK owners have reported, it was shooting well low at 12 yards. I changed out the front sight from a #6 Meps to a #8 Meps, and it's shooting dead on now.

I also installed a #18 Wolff mainspring, and that made a huge difference in the trigger pull.

Hoping Nill completes my DAK specific rhomlas and gets them to me before Xmas...

This has fast become my favorite SiG...

But do you like your XD9? Why not an XD45/XD45tac? There's alot that turns me off of XD, yet I'm still looking hard at the latter, as GLOCK offers nothing similar yet.

The HK UPS 45 would give you the carry options of DA/SA or cocked & locked - the USP would get my vote

I'll be picking mine up on Tuesday. I went to the store to look for a 1911 with an accessory rail. When I saw the p345 for about half the price I fell in love. The grip felt a little thinner than a 1911, but conformed to my hand perfectly. It defenitely felt better than any other P-series. DA/SA and not too expensive. About the same size as a 1911 too.

S&W 945

Tanfoglio Witness Match/Limited/Silver/Gold Team/Hunter

Can't think of any other good, non-1911 SA .45 auto's off the top of my head. Plenty of choices in the DA market, though. In my experience, the S&W 45XX pistols have pretty good SA triggers and are quite accurate.

My 4506 breaks nicely at 4 lbs 2 oz. I paid $450 for it a little over a year ago. IMO, it compares very favorably with a Sig P-220. Similar size, weight, capacity and features (though the S&W has a slide mounted decock/safety). Additionally, the 4506 is rated for .45 Super with only a spring change. Very robust pistols.

I thinking about selling my USPc 9mm if HK comes out with an HK45 compact. Unfortunately, the USPc 45 is a little chunky for my size 7 hands.

P220 SAO's are nice, but I would wait for those since the early models exhibit safety lever issues.

I know this is the autoloaders section, but if you really wanna diversify and get something definetly not 1911 then take a look at the S&W 625 45 ACP revolvers . Definetly meets the good trigger, reliable, easy to clean requirements. Outside of those a Walther P99/ S&W 99 in 45 ACP? The newly announced XD 45 Compact, short frame with 4" slide like a Colt CCO? A S&W "Chief's Special" CS45? The H&K USP or USP compact have always felt good in my 1911 fitting hands as well, maybe one of those? Of course the SIG P220 is a darn fine handgun too. You have quite a few good options available, no real wrong answer here, so pick the one that fits you best. Let us know what you're thinkin on, or what you decide on.

CZ 97 or the Tanfoglio (EAA) equivalent clone. The Tanfoglio will give you an option for a host of caliber conversions. Something that is attracting me to the Tanfoglio "L" model in .45acp.

The Sig P220 would be my first choice, and the CZ97B my second. The Sig gets the nod in my book based on the fact that you can get it in steel or alloy (the CZ only comes in steel and it's a bit much for carry work) and the fact that they generally run out-of-the-box whereas some CZs need tweaking to feed HP ammo.

Get the P220. I've had one for over 20 years. Course, since I am a 1911 guy I don't shoot it that much anymore, it is still my bedside piece.
Perhaps it is time to take it out for another workout soon.
