Best 9MM for target shooting $500 range

Target gun , what kind of targets, what ranges - competitive or informal? If you want a 1911 that is reliable in 9mm and competitive, then STI, Kimber, or Springfield Armory have intro models but they start new around twice your price point and used ones are very hard to find, but worth the effort and you might get one close to your price if the moon is just right. What options are you looking for? What degree of accuracy will be acceptable? Guns can be rather subjective, what works for one does not work for another, that is why some nice guns end up in the used market and go cheep. Just remember, a bargain price on a gun you don't like is not a bargain.

Another CZ 75 vote. I have a old Pre-B, and it's a great little gun. Very easy to shoot accurately with.

Glock G34 is a good choice but runs between $550-600. STI Spartan for around $630, is a great shooter, right out of the box. For less than the budget, Rock Island makes some ok 1911s, but I would want adjustable sights like on the STI. Straight from Glock the G34 has good enough adjustable sights and a typical Glock 4.5lb trigger, and it still shoots circles around anything in my 9mm stable except my STI Trojan 1911. Changed the sights to Dawson Precision adjustable, big improvement, and recently swapped out the trigger for an Apex trigger. At 2.5 pounds and no creep the trigger is sweet, not 1911 sweet, but it is good. CZ75B good choice but the trigger out of the box is just plain bad, but the CZ75B SA is just a little better, a good pistol smith can make it really good. Best DA/SA pistol I have ever shot was a CZ SP01 from Angus' custom shop, wow, but at the price I will keep the G34.

I shoot 9mm from a M&P Pro at the range. It has a long slide & a 5" barrel. I have an M&P 40 Pro, but I use a 9mm conversion barrel & mags. It shoots just as accurately & reliably as my neighbors M&P 9L shoots. It's in the $500-600 range & comes with a 4 Lbs. trigger for easier trigger control. If you don't get the Pro series then spend the money to install the Apex trigger. You will thank me later.;)

I've owned most of the pistols mentioned. I'd recommend the Witness Elite Match over the CZ-75B or CZ-75 SA based on fit, finish, quality. They are all nice pistols but the elite match has a much nicer trigger and build quality.

Best
Jerry

Everybody loves the CZ75, but nobody loves the Witness?
I'll be different and say Witness. You can get the 9mm with a 22lr conversion kit for around that price. I've got the .45 and have never found a gun I enjoy shooting quite as much. Steel, not poly. Call me predjudiced.
