Best AK for the money

I assume you are in a non-ban state. that being the case, i would say that you should buy one a really cheap romy ak first. i remember seeing them as cheap as $229. good grief, how could you go wrong?

I second the fact that you are 100% more likely to be padding somebodys pocket when not ordering from somewhere like (eg. classic, and so on...) The listed 429$ on the M70B2 is what they charged my card shipped, granted i live about an hour drive from them, but im sure it still cost 10$ in postage or so. FFL transfers from the pawn shop here are $15 plus tax. The Last 10 or 15 M70B2's i saw avalible through other means (gun shows, gun stores, pawn shops) were at the very least $519-$559 and bragging "out tha door" still all the while. Id much rather pay ups a few known dollars and a reasonable transfer fee of less than $20 then be padding who knows who's pockets who knows how much.

Leib, now come on ya gotta stop tellin facts ya might upset the gunbroker sellers... they'd rather folks not know the truth even if we have all already known it for a few years now ;)

the OP, was looking for the best deal for his $$ Max..... if he was asking where he could pay exaggerated inflated prices then the posts ya have added would apply but as he is looking for the best deal........ well that would be by going $429 from Classic (and yes that is the price any joe citizen pays so WHY do ya keep insisting its a dealer only price when a few thousand non-dealers pay the exact price as advertised every month no jumped up prices etc.. cause its not a dealer price ANYONE can verify that by simply callin Classic and askin em so please stop shootin your foot off in public) Classic has always had great prices and even better service, if ya want the best AK for the $$ that would be the Yugo, sure a WASR is cheaper but its also way way behind the Yugo in both features and quality.... and at $429 its a price lower than anyone has offered since they started makin em available....

It never hurts to troll around Gunbroker and Auctionarms. I picked up a very nice SAR-1 for $250...and that included half a case of ammo.

Yugo M70 all the way.

While underfolders are "cool looking" they are one of the crappiest and most uncomfortable stocks I've ever used. So unless you specifically need a folder because you are in and out of vehicles I'd recommend the fixed stock.

If you are gonna go Romanian (because some folks require a chrome lined barrel) then track down a SAR rifle. The WASRs were made with a 10 round only magazine well and then milled out to accept a high cap. This of course doesn't impair firing or cycle in any way (unless they did such a bad hack job conversion that mags don't feed right) but mag changes aren't nearly as smooth as on a rifle built for a high cap and it is possible to mis insert a magazine and get it stuck in the wrong position.

For this reason I would never own a WASR rifle.

I agree, the underfolder stocks suck. I would go with an Arsenal. Here is a Bulgarian Arsenal SLR-95 7.62x39 cal on Gun Broker for auction. The starting bid is $300. That is a very low starting bid. You can find some very good deals on Guns America, Gun Broker and Auction Arms. Aim Surplus has a very good deal on Golden Tiger 7.62x39 124grn FMJ Golden Tiger 7.62x39 124grn FMJ 1,000rd Case: $159.95ea

M70B2, eh? okay.. I got to look into this.
dstorm, great to see yo uback to posting again.

can you educate us on why you think that the yugos are the best right now?

I am assuming that you mean best for the buck, because the arsenals seem to have the ak game beat right now.
