I got caught at work carrying and it really didnt freak anyone out, didnt get fired either..........another big vote for Albuquerque.

Thanks!

Thanks, everyone, for the info! I'm keeping this "free city" list for when I've had enough and just have to flee Boston. Maybe I'll write a nice letter to Mayor Menino on my way out.

to LkWinnipesaukee:

Ah, another comrade from the People's Republic of Massachusetts! A "may-issue" state with Menino as the Mayor of Boston -- obviously ordinary people like me cannot have an unrestricted LTC. My license is restricted to "target/range" only. Hopefully I won't be in a self-defense situation before I can find a way to get politically connected-enough to "deserve" a full license. Meanwhile, Mayor Mumbles speeds around Boston with his armed police escort, stopping traffic at every intersection. Argh!

+1 on D/FW area of Texas with a little caveat. The local population seems fairly gun friendly. The local government is a different story. But in general, so it seems, as long as you keep your nose clean and out of trouble, no one cares.

to LkWinnipesaukee:

Yes, I suppose I should be grateful for that! If you turn 21 in 5 years, I guess you have a while to wait! Maybe the laws will be loosened by then, I hope.

Reno NV. You do have to take a class, a test, and qualify with each handgun you want to carry, but other than that, there isn't a single silly gun law here, not one....

I wouldn't call LV pro-gun. You have to register your handguns in clark county. That freakin sucks.

LV isn't horrible... but there's certainly better...

Not to mention that NV doesn't honor anyone else permits...

+1 to the Salt Lake Valley, even thought the current mayor of SLC is a liberal nut, there is nada he can do about it. He doesn't have the ability under Utah law to stop people fom carrying in his town.

We are also allowed to cary at schools and places that serve Liquer. Although being Utah, that is not as big a list as other states. If a business has a no weapons sign that just gives them the right to have you leave. It is not a violation unless you refuse to leave, and at that it's just trespass. Churches are off limits if posted on the BCI website and on the door of the church but I have seen no such sign at church.

Baton Rouge, LA

Your vehchile is an extension of your home. At LSU, it is illegal to have a gun on campus, but not to have one in your car. Open carry with limitations.

Pretty much any place in Florida is pretty good and south Florida is not the only large city. If you don't like the Miami area, there is Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville. All four major cities have very different pesonalities, so you can pretty much find a place you like. I personally live in a small city of about 70,000 people that is just over an hour away from Orlando or Tampa, 45 minutes from Gainesville, 90 minutes from Daytona Beach and less than two hours from Jacksonville. To me, its the best of both worlds. Ocala is big enough to have almost everything I need and small enough to be convenient. If I want to go to a concert or a play, visit a theme park, hit a major mall or do any other "big city" stuff its only an hour and a half drive at worst. I've got access to great private schools. My property taxes are lower than in the big cities and housing prices are lower too. The only downside is the availability of work, but I telecommute full-time.

NV is shall issue as far as CCW goes with issuance being handled by the county of residence. Permits are valid throughout the state. The biggest problem with not having a state CCW permit is that not many states honor the NV permit and I don't believe any have reciprocity with NV.
We honor yours but you do not reciprocate. In fact you don't honor anybody's. You folks need to change this.

Detroit has to be the dead-ringer for last place. Before "shall issue" came to Michigan, it used to take 12 to 18 months in Detroit just to get rejected!

People were literally moving out of Detroit, into Oakland County, getting their permit, then moving back into the Detroit area. That's pretty desperate!

You don't have to move too far to find a great place to practice your second amendment right. Manchester, NH might not be the biggest city, but our firearms laws are friendly and there's no sales or income tax. Our police department even lets you apply for your permit (shall isue, which costs a whopping $10 for 4 years) online. The best part is our lax firearms laws really irk the people in charge down your way. :D
