Perhaps Cooper was merely stating that having a means to protect yourself (an AK47 in your example), coupled with the spirit of organized resistance, makes a citizen a citizen. But you're right, just by having a hunk of metal in your gun safe, never training with it or knowing how to operate it, and living out a sheeple existence does not make a man or woman a "citizen."

ETA: The Greeks owned slaves like many other societies did for thousands of years. I also think the minds behind the revolution in the Northeast were anything but a drunken mob.

While I agree with what you're saying about "go to the source," the other books being recommended are not bad works simply because they make a case or argument. The Federalist papers at one time were arguing for people to accept the new Constitution.

All of the above are good. I would add anything by Gary Kleck, Don Kates, John Lott, and Wayne LaPierre for more of the stastical side of the argument

Look for the anti- federalist papers so you can look at both sides of the proposition. Think they can be found at gutenburg press. I'd also check there for writings by Jefferson, Madison, Washington et al. Great FREE downloadable books that are out of print. Some have been converted to mp3's.

Jeff Cooper best book is The Modern Technique. Before that most handgun shooting was taught one handed with the other hand on the hip. From that we get many two handed stances for more accurate shooting.

Massad Ayoob has written quite a few good books as well as articles for magazines.(google his name).

Depending what your interests and finances are let them be your guide. Many free articles are found on the internet so cost shouldn't be a problem.:scrutiny:

"To Ride, Shoot Straight, and Speak The Truth" by Jeff Cooper, as mentioned by others. The first chapter is one of the best writings on RKBA, IMO.
