I bought 4,000 mixed pieces of 9 mm & .40 S&W "once fired" brass from www.brassmanbrass.com.

Is there a significant difference in brands of brass? Should I throw out any specific brand or type?

I´d love to hear your opinions on brass types, brands, # of reloads, and so on.

Thanks!

Best wil be Federal, followed closely by Win. and Rem. (I like rem though because it is plentiful in my area).

Bad: Amerc, Blazer or Steel cases ie:Wolf (not reloadable), be careful with any European brass.

S&B may be good, I have some S&B .22 Hornet brass that is superior, but don't know about .40 S&B. I only fool with BIG-3, as I get all .40 S&W OFB brass I want for free. (most practice/qualifing ammo too!)

Any of the Starline or Starline with proprietary head stamps (ie; Ga Arms, Precision Delta- P-D, Anderson Cart.- AMI, Hunt Shack Munitions HSM, Black Hills, to name a few) are most excellent.

Be careful with Nickle plated brass, the Nickle plating makes it "slick" and if neck tension is not adequate, can case bullet set back and associated pressure excursions (ie: case head blow-outs or worse).

The only thing I try and stay away from is the military crimped stuff. I buy 40 from brassman also with good success. You cant beat his prices on 40. I have never even really worried about sorting it out. Never saw the point.

I generally use Magtech brass or Winchester. I can't stand Remington brass, it doesnt hold up half as well as Winchester, thats after buying 400 pieces of .357 magnum and having to replace it with 400 pieces of Winchester brass. All my experience reloading with Remington brass has been negative to say the least. I've reloaded 500 pieces of wolf 45ACP steel cases and it worked fine. That said I use brass exclusively as the steel cases tore up the extractor in my 1911.

M2,

I would agree with you on Rem brass with one exception. That would be their 45 ACP brass. It has a very strong web and with the thinner walls is good for those "MAXIMUM" loads.

MY 'BEST'

9x19: Speer, IMI, Winchester, Starline

40 S&W: R-P, IMI, Starline

45ACP: IMI, R-P nickel +P, Starline

9x21: GFL

41AE: IMI

10mm: Winchester, Starline

38 Super: R-P nickel +P, Starline

Revolver: Starline

When in doubt: Starline
