So I bit the bullet and have a complete upper waiting for me, and from what I can tell BCM lowers havent been available for a long time. Ideally I'd like a BCM lower, but I may just end up going to the gunstore and looking for a nice rollmark and an H buffer.

I've considered building a stripped lower, but honestly with the AR market the way it is now, I'm not sure I would be saving myself any money or time.

Are there any brands I should be looking for, or avoiding entirely?

I like an aero precision then I put in a ssa-e trigger and ctr stock
A basic one built yourself is 213. Upgrades make it cost more

Obviously, not real useful for your needs, but I just picked this up for my son in FL.

He can't find anything in his area and this Yankee Hill Machine assembled lower was $199 locally in CT. Beautiful finish and flawlessly crisp machining and engraving. I should go back and get one for me too :)

What shop in CT BMG?

Slim pickens out there...

I guess that depends on where you're at. At the Tanner show in Denver today, there were dozens upon dozens of stripped and assembled lowers from literally every manufacturer, starting at $100. Between uppers, lowers and complete rifles, I'd hazard a guess that there was well in excess of 500 ARs in that building.

I was at a local gun show yesterday and I saw numerous complete lowers (e.g. Stag, Doublestar and Aero etc) in the $255-275 range. This seller has 30+ complete Doublestar lowers for $239+$26 shipping.

After looking it up, I think spikes would be the closest thing I could probably find in terms of quality and fit/finish.
Is there any news or rumors on when BCM lowers will be back in? Their website says they're so backordered they wont even put an ETA.
And honestly from what I can see on the net, pretty much everything is out of stock! Damn you, mayan calendar-loonies!

If the Mayan Calender loonies are right, there ought to be thousands of AR type lowers to choose from on 12/22/12 laying around.

:) Less than helpful I know. Sorry about that.

Don

BCM makes a great lower but as you say there's no indication when or if they will be sold except as a complete rifle. Daniel Defense quit selling lowers seperately about two years ago and it's rare to see one these days.

It really doesn't matter, Spikes makes good lowers and so do many other companies. As already mentioned S&W makes a fine lower, I have one and of my lowers it's my favorite. I also like my Valkyrie Arms (actually made by JD Machine Tech which occasionally does batches for other places like Valkyrie). Both have nicely finished magwells and smooth finishes. Same goes for a Charles Daly my son in law has. My ArmaLite lower is ok but falls a little short of the others mentioned.

You didn't say what brand upper you have. BCM? My BCM upper mates very nicely with the JD Machine Tech

I am partial to the Lewis Machine & Tool (LMT) complete lowers. Their sopmod stock provides a very comfortable chech weld. I also prefer their 2 stage trigger version for non-shtf purposes.

I really need help gentlemen, i wasn't able to find a spikes lower, and the rainier was bought out from under me by a matter of seconds. Would you guys know of anymore respectable AR manufacturers that sell complete lowers with mil spec receiver extension tubes with heavy buffers? Thanks!

RCArms,

I don't know where people came up with this Mayan doomsday thing. From what I understand the calendar is simply a calendar, and an accurate one to boot. It has nothing to do with a "doomsday" and simply marks the end of our current age and the entering of the new age (Aquarius I think?). If anything the Mayans believed this may mark a positive transitions for humans, i.e. a more "enlightened" populace. No idea where the "end of the world" crap comes from, but it ain't the Mayans.

I'm gonna be a smart ass and say the one you put together yourself. At least that you're getting the parts you prefer.

with all the crazy last minute buying i was able to score a rra nm lower. thanks tho!
