Life is full of compromises.........and so are guns. In life we strive to make the best combination of compromises we can......and so do gun manufacturers with the products they offer.

So which gun manufacturers have done the best?

Name your choice for best value manufacturers.

Value = Attributes/cost

Cost=cost=cost, pretty simple.

Attributes = quality + reliability + accuracy + warranty + customer support + effectiveness of design (functionality) + ease of maintainence + robustness

As in life, aesthetics/good looks are in the eye of the beholder and while personally important to some, let's leave it out of this exercise. :)

In my experience, I'd name Ruger and Bersa

I'd have to argue pretty hard for the whole line of S&W DA revolvers made over the last 100+ years.

They have never been off the charts expensive or hard to find.
(except for a few things like the Dirty Harry inspired Model 29 shortage there for a while.)

Sort of a working mans gun for the most part of the 20th. century.

Quality + reliability + accuracy + warranty + customer support + effectiveness of design (functionality) + ease of maintenance + robustness has historically been second to none.

BTW: You left out Return on Investment when you sell one.
Again, well maintained old S&W's have done as well as the stock market or better.

Ruger is fair.
Bersa? Not so much.

This is going to be different for everyone, based on what they desire. From what I can tell, new Rugers have the best value for revolvers.

For semi-autos, I like the features of the Springfield XDM (both those included and those left out) more than any other brand, so regardless of price, they're the best fit for me. This is going to be very subjective, though. My desires include:
-Trigger Safety INSTEAD OF a manual safety (as opposed to "in addition to")
-DAO or striker-fired
-High Capacity (with stock magazines XDM 9 and XDM 40 have the biggest capacities I've seen for their respective caliber. XDM 45 is tied with Glock and only beaten by the Para P14 and the FNP 45, as far as I have seen)
-Simple Disassembly (compared with a lot of Glock clones, the XDM does not require you to pull the trigger)
-Accurate enough to hit a target at SD ranges
-Reliable with defense loads

The XDM is the only handgun I've found that meets all of those criteria. So what else is there to compare its value with?

I'll begin with I'm cheap!! To me $300 bucks is a lot of money!!! Ive had bad luck with taurus, but I do own a few, after a trip to be fixed they have become ok, I also have a hi-point, it's ugly As hell, but it shoots everytime! For the price I won't complain. Jaminaz isn't bad either, I've got a couple and they go bang with out a hitch as long as they are Clean, lower end, yes, but for the price I've no complients! I've been moving myself up to better brands, but if you don't have the funds, look into some of these lower brands, they have come a long way! In the end, it's better to have something then nothing! But that is just my .02 cents!

I have to agree with Ruger in the OP. I've had 2 Kel Tecs, and while I appreciate them; I will from now on save up a little more and buy a Ruger.
