Best Deal Ever

In the late 70s a friend bought a 4" S&W M19. On its second trip to the range its owner saw and tried out a 6" M19 and he just had to have one. The 4" gun had less than 100 rounds through it and I had pulled the trigger on almost half of them. He sold it to me for $100 less than he paid for it and bought the 6" gun.

He'd been to the range 3 or 4 times with the 6" gun when he saw and tried out a Colt Gold Cup. He had to have that one too and I got the 6" gun for about $100 less than he paid for it.

The 4" model was my duty gun for 8 years and I used the 6" gun for matches when I was on the sheriff's pistol team in the 80s. I still have both of them and they are still going strong!

Got both a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Mag with the 4 5/8" barrel and a SW Model 65 in 38 special for 450 bucks from a neighbor. Both in great condition and the Ruger is a 1976 manufactured one.
Have a 6.5x55 Swede carbine that a friend gave me but that wasn't a "deal", that was a gift...

My dad and I bought a commercial fishing boat about 15 years ago. I went to take a leak in the head and found a loaded deerfield 20 guage and a box of shells.
After my dad moved back to the midwest, I sold the boat for what I had paid for it. I kept the shotgun. it has a nice saltwater petina.

Not only was the shotgun more or less -free, it was loaded and came with a box of shells.

A friend of mine was working down the street from the sheriff's office once when a guy came in asking if anyone could tell him where the sheriff's was. After telling him it was just down the street, my friend asked why'd he want to know? "Oh, my brother died and left me all these guns, I'm taking them down to turn in to the sheriff, I don't want them".

After asking the guy to wait and let him take a look at the trunk full of guns, my friend ended up giving the guy $100 for an AK, a 100 round drum mag for the AK, a whole bunch of ammo, and two or three handguns with some ammo. $100 for everything, not $100 for each item. THAT'S not a bad deal!

Remington 700, $150 bucks, summer 2010
Marred stock and camo-taped, but nothing my years of high school shop class couldnt fix :D

Traded it for a Makarov(+300rds, 2 holsters and 20bucks cash)
Traded the Makarov for a taurus Model 85CH, which I traded for a CZ75B

I am the god of deals :D

Some people might want us to believe that their undated excellent deals were within the last few years, instead of in the 90s or 80s.

My Norinco SKS was near mint condition, but the seller is a shotgun man and his Dad died before he really got to use the gun.
$200 behind a fast food place near I-40 in middle TN, March '08.

Only other good deal is an Enfield #5 "Jungle Carbine" for $350 at the show in Sept. '09. It was stored in Malaysia but thankfully has no rust hidden under the wood.

Best deals so far were early in 2010. An Ithaca 37 12 gauge that needed a little TLC for $99 before taxes and dross. On that same day a Meriden single shot 12 gauge for $49 before taxes and dross. Both are functional and get some range time when my shoulder will tolerate it.

FN Mauser in .308 that had been mildly sporterized, drilled and tapped, cheap scope, aftermarket safety, and a little trigger work for $150 out the door. I can put 5 rounds of the cheap Silver Bear ammo in the 10-ring at 100 yards off of sandbags. Groups better than my Rem 700 SPS which cost almost 3 times the price before not including the scope on top of it.

A buddy of mine got a milled arsenal AK last week at the gunshow for $200

The best deal I ever did is kinda complex. I bought 2 1919's a A4 and a A6, the whole setup cost me about $2500. I had a mount, links, and a bunch of goodies with the guns including two warhead boxes to store them in. I sold that setup for $4500

I bought another wiselite 1919a4 for $1200 including a BUNCH of spare parts, I got the gun for about $800 after you figured in the parts. I took the $4500 from the last two and contacted John Mcquire who built me 4 consecutive 1919's. I sold all 5 1919's as a "set" for $10,000

I used that money to buy a m2hb, sokolov mount, a crap load of 50 bmg ammo and 4 more 1919 reciever boxes from AA when they went bankrupt.

When all was said and done I was in a m2hb, mount, 4 1919 recievers, and about 600 rounds of ammo for $3700 or so.

I was at my local cabelas and they were having a cleaning out sale. They had some assorted stuff on card tables but there was a 1895 Steyr for 149.99 and a 1907 French reminton Lebel for 199.99. So me and my dad are standing there when a cabelas employee walks out with 2 post-it notes that both say 49.99 and slaps them on both. We grabbed those and hauled to the cash register. Not to bad for 100.00 I think
p.s both were good shooters with very good shiny bores.

About three years ago I bought a pre-war S&W 38-44 Heavy Duty with magna grips, all numbers matching for $270. It was marked as a Model of 1904, 4th change.
