How strong is your pimp hand?
Hopefullly this thing with come with a 2lb spring. LOL. Serioulsy though, I have enough black guns, I wanted some bling, and the price was right. I keep saying each gun will be my last. I really wasnt planning on getting this one but the urge hit me. Im already having urges to get a sub-compact 1911. OH my wallet is hurting.

I dont think your wallet will ever stop hurting...especially since one can never have enough guns.

The trick is not to lose money when you're doing a trade.

There is a thread specifically for grips in the "Handguns: General" section. There are over 5 pages of posts on there. Take a look and see what you like. When you see the design you like, try a few and see how they feel. Think about what your intended use for them will be. Are they going to be for looks, are they going to be for functionality, or a combination of both?

Form or function?

I prefer the looks of wood grips and blued steel.

Most of my 1911s are stainless, and wear rubber grips from Kimber.

Hogue grips...

Hogue is really the handgun grip of choice in the US market. They make grips for many major factories and they sell great products. The company was started by a LAPD sworn officer, Guy Hogue and is still run by his family.

Form or function...a little of both. I've had hard plastic, hogue, pachmayr, wood, etc on two diff. 1911 and I don't really like the pachmayr or hogue personally.

I've found a combination for my carry 1911 that I dont think I'll ever change.

VZ Alien G10 grips and Wilson Combat checkered frontstrap.

The finish on the frame of my RIA Tactical Two-tone is VERY slick, and while the gun has never twisted or anything, but I did notice a little more muzzle flip when I had no front strap and smoother plastic grips.

With my current setup, I have never had more positive control of my weapon.

I have ivory grips, also have mastodon bark grips, stag, bone, carbon fiber, micarta, corian, G10, pretty much every wood, etc. & etc.

Grips are personal like your choice in clothing. No need to march in step with everyone else.

On my favorite M1911s, I change the grips whenever I feel like it.

One caution about ivory & mastodon/mammoth. You need to be careful to prevent chipping or cracking. Just letting them dry out can do this. Depending on the condition of the ivory, lots of shooting can cause stress cracks. All of which can be really lame if you just paid $200-500+ for a set of grips. (I suggest that you swap to regular grips during long shoots & training & change back for carry/display).

Also suggest you consider sambar stag. These can be beautiful and are sturdier than ivory.

I buy grips for two reasons. One for looks and two for feel.
Some look good like smooth exotic wood but they don't feel good to me, others feel great like plain looking slim checkered wood. Everyone is going to be different just look around at whats out there give em a try and see what you like.
