Many of us have grown up around guns all our lives. My Grandfather, a Salt Lake City Sheriff from 1929 to 1941 when he reenlisted in the Army, wore a cocked and locked .45 ACP Colt 1911 to the dinner table and had many pearls of wisdom about guns and shooting. One piece of advice from him was, "beware a man with only one gun because he probably knows how to use it". I'm sure he stole it from someone but it is sound advice. What gun advice or saying hits home with you?

Dad always said (and still does) “Put yer finger in the hole where the bullet go” to remind people to check empty.

My Father taught us all at a very young age: "Treat all guns like they are loaded." It has proven to be a valuable lesson.

I know this isn't what you're looking for, but I find it amusing and rather truthful:

"You accomplish more with a smile, a handshake, and a gun than you do with just a smile and a handshake." Al Capone

Give a man a squirrel and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to shoot a squirrel with a .22LR and you feed him for life.

    As Marlboro said to Harley-

"Squeeze the trigger. It ain't yer _________, you don't yank it. Just Squeeze.":D

I use that one on my buddies. For my kids it's, "Finger off the trigger until muzzle is downrange."

From my uncle the cop: "an unloaded gun will get you in trouble".

Or it could be he really doesn't care about guns and doesn't shoot very much. Every hard core gun owner I know owns lots of guns. The ones I know that only have a gun or two use it to shoot a raccoon off the porch or kill a rabid skunk. They never shoot. Own very little ammo and don't know how to even take their gun apart to clean it. Asking about grouping at 100 yards gets you a dumb look. The guy that only owns one gun scares me the very least.

"get yer finger off the damn trigger!"....usually accompanied by a rap to the back of the head.
Didn't take long for that rule to become habit!

It's a tool. But it's a tool that uses another tool way out there. You are responsible for tool #1 and twice responsible for tool #2.
    It ain't no toy.

Don’t have any good, sage like advice. But I can think of two fun sayings I’ve heard. One is from a video I watch about the khyber pass gun markets of Pakistan. In it a tribal guide shared a saying; “ have lots of sons, lots of guns! “. The other is a name of a song: Happiness is a warm gun. I’m sure we can vouch for that!

I have heard that one plenty of times. In my experience, the guy with only one gun has never shot it, has no idea how it works, and does not own any ammo.

Regarding the “man with one gun” every one of us will have a different experience, perhaps making the saying a more general warning about treading lightly with anyone.

Because he grew up poor, my father was that man. Grew up shooting, combat vet, and was a decade into his law enforcement career before he could afford a second firearm. Probably still owns the best qualification scores posted by his department, though many of his contemporaries did not shoot beyond what was required.

All this to say beware ANY man with a gun.

One is none, two is one.
A 2nd handgun carried in weak hand pocket offers quick access should something cause dominant hand unable to draw primary gun.
