As part of my ongoing attempts to influence America one American at a time, I like to encourage my fellow servicemen to acquire firearms as they leave the service. So I'm always willing to talk gun-talk with Marines, and just generally corrupt the youth of America.

To this end, I emailed a couple gun companies inviting them to send me catalogs, which I would share with men in my unit.

SA mailed off a stack of ten catalogs post-haste. Those sat on my rack for about ten minutes before they were snatched up while my back was turned. I see Marines flipping through them around the Bn area.

I got an email from Bushmaster today, saying that "2 boxes" are on their way. I don't know the size of the boxes, but I suppose more is good. At the very worst, I can give the excess to gun-nut buddies in other camps.

In any case, does anyone have any other reccommendations for companies I should write to for requests?

I picked SA because many Marines have this cultish obsession with the 1911 and M14, though most have never fired said weapon.

I picked BM because, predictably, many Marines want an AR-15 when they get out, and BM seems to have a pretty wide variety.

I'd really like to get catalogs or fliers from some company that has affordable products. I've always thought that more vets would buy Milsurp Mausers and Nagants if they knew how affordable they are. Many buddies of mine bought Mausers, SKSs, etc. after I put a bug in their ear about "$60 rifles that rock". So, would Southern Ohio Gun send me catalogs? Any other C&R or "big pile of wholsale" dealers who would like to get ad copy into the hands of combat-pay rich young men who are poised for major-league benders after deployment?

I don't need anyone to write any company for me, just reccommendations for companies that might send catalogs would be great. I can handle this hobby just fine without the whole board tackling some poor factory employee. Though if there are any other deployed folks reading this, maybe this technique could be used in your camp as well. Way I see it, the more armed, law-abiding folks, the better.

Thanks to all for any reccommendations. I'll post a follow-up should any massive gun-buying craze occur when we return. Take much care, -MV

The Smith and Wesson, Ruger, and Browning catalogs are pretty interesting. Lots of nice gun porn =D

Whenever CDNN has a new catalog they send me one. I would try them they have allot of C&R weapons and allot of cheap weapons in general.

Springfield Armory: Sent a dozen via Airmail. When I told them that those vanished in an hour, they emailed saying more are on the way.

Bushmaster: just sent me an invoice saying "two boxes" are en-route.

NAA: Catalogs on the way.

I also wrote to Bond Arms, S&W, J&G, and SOG. CDNN is a good idea too. Too bad those guys don't include a "How to get your C&R" blurb in their catalog. Yet another program I'm sure lots of guys would jump on if they knew it existed. -MV
