Best gun show find yet!

Found this at the SAR show in Phoenix this weekend, and it came home with me:

Without a doubt the most awesome thing I've ever found at a show and been able to acquire. The seller knew what it was, and it didn't come cheap, but it is missing the bolt, furniture, gas system, and some other small parts and so the daunting task of finding another complete one, reverse engineering it, and fabricating new parts brought the price down out of the stratosphere.

Anyone else recognize what it is?

Nope, not a Johnson (I could just buy the parts for one of those)...

I have got to agree with selector67 and go with a Johnson Model 1941 Rifle. The first thing I noticed was the rotary magazine assembly. Very nice find, even in that condition. Should be something to see when you get it all back together again.

This is several decades before the Johnson, and has detachable drum magazines.

Looks like you're doing the video in slow motion because of how slow that bolt is! Does it lock open after the last round and is it possible to remove the mag without the rounds flying everywhere?

Actually, a couple of the clips in that video were in slow motion. The bolt does lock open when empty, and the drum has a latch to hold the ammo in place (I just forgot that I needed to engage it before removing a loaded drum).

I know a couple of clips were in slow motion. I'm talking about the real time footage, it looked slowed down.

The gas system on the F-Q is such that the recoil impulse feels a bit delayed form firing. Instead of the gas piston acting directly on the bolt carried, the F-Q has an intermediate step. Gas from the barrel compresses a spring to a set point, where it locks in position and the rear end of the spring is released and that pushes on the bolt carrier. The rationale is so that in case of an overpressure round, excess pressure will just vent out the barrel, and the force exerted on the bolt carrier will always be the same. The result is that unlocking is delayed while the spring compresses, and that may account for the action looking a bit funny.
