Best Gun To Carry

Yeah, Ive been going over all the issues to consider when it comes to concealed carry, such as size, what types of safety features I will want. i.e, Do I want something with a decock lever, or safety, or both like the PX4 or KH USP. Maybe its just because Im new to everything but Im not sure if I would be comfortable with a round in ready to go in something like an XD or Glock. Thanks for everyones continued imput

I would say Glock 26 (9mm subcompact) if you want capacity or 39 (.45 GAP subcompact) if you want caliber. Or if you're a 1911 nut, keep an eye out for the Springfield EMP in .45 GAP.

I'm going to second the nomination for a CZ. I recently got my CHL, so I've also been looking around for a while. I decided to get the RAMI in 9mm (http://www.impactguns.com/store/806703017501.html - I'm not recommending them, but that was one of the first links in Google). Of course, WildAlaska over on TFL had to sell HK P7s for a good price, so that's what I'm actually carrying. :p

Really, you need to feel and shoot as many as you can to see what kind of features you're looking for: single/double stack, caliber, SA/DA/SAO/DAO, grip angle, sights, weight, etc. The only thing that won't change depending on the gun you choose is that you need to have good quality accessories. A solid belt (I have an excellent bullhide belt from thebeltman.net) will make carrying much, much easier.

EDIT: Also, you may want to post your location. I, and many others here, would be more than happy to let you shoot our guns to get a feel for what you're looking for.

Id hafto agree with alot of other folks and suggest you look into something more mid sized.

Id tell you to look into:
Taurus PT111 Milpro (if yer into higher capacity)
Kahr CW9
both are compact, reliable, great to carry and affordable.

Im shure youll enjoy yer first pistol whatever it is!

PM9 or M&P9c both hide well and are more accurate the I am (and probably 99.94% of us). The M&P is thicker and heaver but carries easily with a good holster IWB. I use a C-TAC for the M&P and an Uncle Mike's for the PM9. Both of these have been 100% for me. I find I hide a shorter grip better than a full grip. The barrel length is less of a consideration, IMHO.

Two I would recommend you take a look at. One I own and the other I am lusting over and its not even in the stores yet.

I have the Sig P239 SAS 40cal with DAK trigger....it's an awesome fire arm.

The other is the soon to be released Beretta PX4 Storm Subcompact 9mm.
Read for yourself.

get a gun you feel comfortable shooting , feels good in your hand , acurate within 5 to 7 yards point & shoot . You'll trust your life and your loved ones lives with . Remember , you have to carry it too . Then comes the fun part . Holsters , IWB , OWB , pocket , leather , nylon , plastic and so on ...........

There's a major balancing act that goes into handgun choices. Most people want a carry gun to do two things, be small and light enough that they can go about their day with a minimum of fuss, even with the pistol aboard, and be big enough and potent enough that it'd be worth having around in a gunfight. These two ideas aren't all that friendly toward one another.

You've added a third requirement, that is a handgun that is decent enough to shoot that you can learn on it, in addition to carrying it, and possibly needing it one day.

It seems to me that the ideal gun to carry would be a Kel Tec P32. But, it's hard to shoot well, and not the most potent weapons system around.

The ideal gun to fight with, (barring the obvious choice of a mini-gun, or a 12 guage shotgun) would be a full size, high caliber, high capacity arm, similar to a Springfield XD .45 Tactical. But, that's a big honking critter to tote around, and not that cheap to feed.

The ideal gun to learn with would be a .22 target pistol, like a Ruger MKII. Not much for either carry or potency though.

As a three way compromise, I think that I'd suggest a full size, all steel 9mm. Cheap and easy to shoot, and not that horrible to carry. I'd further suggest the CZ-75 lineup.

I just got back from a small gun show here in kansas. And after looking and feeling some of these guns ive only seen pictures of, Im almost sure I am going to go with either the Sig 239, or Kahr PM9 or CW9. Anyone have any troubles with these guns in the past?

I carry a couple of small guns, a Ruger SP101 and a Bersa 380 when I am dressed very lightly, though I prefer a full size pistol. The gun I carry most often in usual summer clothes (shorts, t-shirt and light button shirt) is a full size Taurus 24/7 9mm. I tuck in my t shirt for comfort and use a Galco inside the waist band holster on my right side. I then put the short sleeve button shirt over it and button about 3 in the middle. The gun tucks in nicely, comfortably and even with the full size grip conceals completely beneath the button shirt.

I alternate. I used to love the tacticool semi-autos like Glock, XDs, and CZs. I do carry these still on occassion, but my routine carry piece is the ultra reliable and powerful Ruger SP101 revolver, crossdraw. Very comfortable for driving and I've never heard of one malfunctioning.

I have owned an (1) XD and (2) SIGs. Both of which are good guns. However, I sold them both and I have two Glock 19's. I have owned a total of 5 Glocks.

I prefer the Glock for several reasons. First of all, it is the most reliable handgun there is. Second of all, the trigger pull is the same all the time. There are no manual safeties to have to worry about. The Glock is substantially lighter to carry than a SIG!
