Best handgun for 450 or under?

You could get a brand new stainless Ruger P95 for about 300, and spend the extra 150 on a case of ammo to get you going :D

If you want to spend it all on a gun, CZs are pretty good from what I've heard.

New? I have to stick with Ruger, Taurus and depending on where you live apparently, CZ. The P series is getting to be pretty aged, but they are still good pistols, and teh SR9 looks nice. Taurus-haters aside, the 24/7 is a darn nice pistol, I love my PT1911 (which would be pushing the $450.00 mark), and the 92 is a splendid gun. Not a whole lot can be said about CZ: They are good guns, period.

Used? Man, thats far too wide a door. For $450, with a little luck and a little patience, you could darn near get any gun you wanted short of a custom 1911, or Pancho Villas personal revolver....

S&W lightweight alloy revolvers. Not intended for extended sessions shooting paper, but concealable, accurate, very well made, and under $400.

If you want a fun range gun, a Uberti SAA clone is sure hard to beat.

The Walther P1 is kicking around gun shops, German surplus, for around $250 here right now. That, too, is a good gun. Shoots well for me; well enough for casual competition.

A Ruger P-series gun would be an excellent choice for $450 or less. The line may be getting old, but they're durable as all get-out and will shoot pretty much anything you put in them. I saw speculation that the P-series line would be phased out as the SR-type pistols came in, but I do think that'd be a real shame if it ever comes to be.

Take this with a grain of salt, but i remember an older work buddy (in his late 50's) who read lots of gun mags and LOVED to hunt tell me one time he read an article in one of his mags that said one of the ruger pistols in 9mm (i think it was 9mm, maybe different, although im not sure the model either) was the best value for the money. I was kind of surprised. Dont think that would have ever persuaded me to buy one though :p

EDIT: woohoo! 100th post! :D

Either NIB is a great choice IMO

...

I would say get a CZ 9mm, or a Beretta Px4 9mm..

I would definitely tell ya to stay with 9mm, as it will allow you a lot of range practice at a lower cost than 40cal, and today's JHP HD/SD ammo will do the job..

Both CZ and the Beretta are aprox. $450 NIB.

My Px4 40cal has 5500 rounds, very accurate, and has had no problems, just 100%.

Here's a pic of a Beretta Px4 (same gun in either 9mm or 40cal)

How come nobody has mentioned the Sigma a.k.a. SW9VE ?

NIB gun, case of ammo, 4 or 5 magazines, holster, and a steak dinner to celebrate and still have a few bills left out of that $ 450 !:D

At least in my Area the M&P will be under 450 especially after the $50 rebate. In addition you get a total of 4 mags which makes it a nice deal.
