Besides, I think you're talking about Alaskan Moose aren't you Cosmoline? The moose I seen when I was in Alaska put most of the Shiras moose we have around here to shame size-wise.

Yeah, they're actually clasified as alces alces gigas because they're a notch larger than European or lower 48 moose. But they're not particularly dangerous as long as you remember to make like Brave Sir Robin. The old saying is it takes a moose at least a minute to die no matter what rifle you shoot it with. Even so, they're not particularly hard animals to kill, since they have enormous heart/lung targets and don't tend to hop around much. But I'd hate to have to wait around getting stomped for the minute.

We had an APD officer get charged by one (he was up to his waist in snow at the time, investigating something) and dropped it mid-charge by emptying his Glock (I'm pretty sure it was the .40 though the .45 would do just fine) into it.

I'm not sure if I missed the memo about moose suddenly growing armored hides or something, .454/.500 as a minimum?

They're just deer with HUGE target zones. Avoid the males in the rut and cows with calves and they are a pleasure to watch. If you have to shoot one you'll be punching through thin skin. This isn't a Cape Buffalo.

Moose are all throughout Anchorage, I wouldn't want to just have my .380 on me when the chips are down but my normal "people" carry guns suit me just fine.
