Hello all, I have two revolvers, both big, and both of them have terrible holsters. I was dry firing my 586 last night when I realized how much I love that honkin' revolver, and I was thinking about getting it a respectable holster. I was wondering what sort of OWB or shoulder holsters are good for a gun like that, I would like it if the holster wouldn't tear up the beautiful bluing too much though, it is by far my most lovely gun and I'd really like to keep it that way. Which manufacturer makes a good belt holster for a 6" L frame, preferably under $100, less is more if the quality is still great? This would definitely be something I would either OC while out in the woods or potentially OC every so often just for the hell of it.

Tell me what your favorite holsters are.

For my large revolvers, actually any of my DAs, I like the Bianchi 5BH or the Lawrence equivalent.

Not sure if either is currently made but they can be found used.

I like the versatility of the "Bianchi Cyclone 111" --- gives me a choice of strong-side or crossdraw carry.

I've tried a few other options but have not found any that I like better than the Cyclone 111.

Bianchi makes a good holster, but I don't find the anchor side anywhere near adequate for a shoulder rig. Also, the Bianchis' have really stiff leather that will rub the guns' finish.

I'd encourage you to check out the pancake holsters from this site:

I have a holster coming from them for my 3" .357.

I have a Colt Peacekeeper, .357, full size that I carry in an Uncle Mikes shoulder holster. I prefer this rig because of the wide staps that carry the weight better than narrow ones; the anchor side is designed to both pull the gun in tight and help distribute the weight between both shoulders; and it's a soft nylon but retains the gun well. The shape of the holster allows the gun to just disappear under a carry garment. I use a vest from www.concealedcarry.com and the big gun can't be seen under the lightweight tropical vest.
