i had a scope on this thing, but took it off. I prefer the rifle as a iron sighted knock about gun. It's accurate and I've taken two deer with it, but I have better hunting rifles. This one fits the "truck gun" niche quite well.

So, anyway, one of my deer taken 20 years ago was taken with a scope, the one 2 years back was taken with the OEM sights. But, my eyes are getting older and I find I shoot a receiver aperture much more easily than the open sights. Wondering if anyone has mounted a receiver aperture sight on a SKS? Got pix? Got recommendations? I really like a ghost ring type or close.

It's a small thing, but I might like the rifle better with an aperture sight on it. It's a helluva gun for 75 bucks as it is. :)

I highly recommend Tech Sights for an SKS. I mounted them on my Norinco and they have been excellent.

It just about doubles the sight radius of an SKS. I can barely see 100yds but I can hit a 6in target all day long with steel cased Tula. I went with the TS200 sight for mine.

I'm sure the Tech-Sights users will give you good feedback on that receiver sight.

All I've tried is the Williams and the Mojo. Neither one helps with old eyes since they don't mount near the eye. Although, they can sort of work as a ghost ring with the apertures removed.

You'll need to get or make a front sight tool for elevation changes, though.

I have the Williams on my Norinco Paratrooper. It made a definite difference in accuracy and sight picture with the short 16" barrel. But I'm concerned about durability. It sets high and can be snagged on things wich could knock it out of the mount or damage it. I'll probably get a Tech sight. That will give even a longer sight plane and they are nearly indestructible. I would go with the Tech.

Mmm, good lookin' site, that Tech Sight. Mounts to the take down lever thingy. Wondering if you remove it to take the gun apart, will you need to sight in when you put it back together? Not a real big deal, I guess, since I rarely strip the gun to clean it, but I do every so often.

It has loctited set screws that don't move when you break it down to clean it. Mine has returned to zero everytime I have taken it apart and re-installed it.

I own two Norincos, a 16" "Paratrooper carbine" and the Norinco rifle. I don't care much for the Paratrooper, hardly ever shoot it. The trigger has sucky creep. The rifle is one of the 1 out of 10 that has a crisp trigger and I've hunted with it, taken two deer with it over the years. I kinda think of it as a semi auto .30-30 and the availability of 154 Tula soft point really makes it desirable to me as a useful gun. SO, I think I'll improve it with the Tech Sight. THANKS for all the input! My old eyes much prefer a receiver mounted aperture vs an open sight of any kind, less focus problems. I can still use an aperture, getting to the point I have to have super lighting to line up open sights. Aging sux. It ain't for wimps. :D

If you like aperture sights, Tech Sights makes a good one... but be aware that looking through a little hole at your target isn't real good for the low-visibility times of the day when you usually see deer. They would be great for daytime stalking though.

If your trigger really is as bad as you say it is then why not send the trigger group off to Tom Prince aka kivaari and have him work his magic and get you around a 5 pound pull without having to change any springs. It will have little to no creep before it breaks and will be smooth as butter. 65.00 good investment.

I just like the way it was designed by SImonov. But i m interested to get a KNS front sight post thats thinner to be more precise. Its the fourth one from the left .

Yep....I had Kivaari do three trigger groups for me. They are all really nice triggers now. It is worth it.

Well, the rifle has a good trigger. It's the carbine that is mushy, like most SKSs. I'm not really interested in spending money on THAT one.

Hmm, does it have a disc that can be removed? I've made one aperture into a ghost ring that way. i really like ghost rings.

Actually if you get the 200 series Tech Sights, they make a replacement aperture that takes inserts. With no insert, it would pretty much be a ghost ring.

I had a set of TechSights on my CZ 452 Trainer and they were great. If I ever pick up another SKS that will be the first thing I add to it.
