Everyone knows that Mosin's and SKS' are great military surplus rifles for the money, but I'm wondering what are some really good surplus handguns that are commonly available for a good price?

Look at the Makarovs and CZ-82's, while the price is climbing, I think you should still be able to sneak into one of those for a reasonable price.

Best? Whatever you can find. The primary supplies from military stores are pretty well exhausted.

Having said that, I'd be looking at Cz-82s and Tokarevs. P-64 if you like it...and maybe as trade fodder if not. Walther P-1s are still around, and new enough on the secondary market that the prices haven't gone up too much.

If you have an FFL who will do the transfer at a reasonable cost, yes. Good catch.
Yes, $25 FFL fee + $10 BG check, and no tax.
I'm considering getting one after Christmas, but have a lot going now.
You never know when they will be pulling out more old crates of something else.:)

Another vote for the P64 and the Tokarev. My favorite is a Romanian Tok, finish is nice, eats all ammo and I got it for under 2 bills. I like my P64 as well, it's one of my CCW guns.
Also I have a CZ50 or two, I like those as well, but I haven't seen any around lately. If I had to pick one to get before they go would be a Tok of some kind. Ammo is widely availibity for. Ot much over 9mm. Plus it's one sreaming little round.

Aim has BHP from Israel, not cheap. But, nothing is cheap latelly.
The CZ-75 I saw on Gunbroker were pretty bad and no firing pin version so no spare part from CZ USA (Walt Sherrill may correct me on that).
Oh, about the CMP 1911, keep praying.

I like the Toks. The 7.62x25 is flatter shooting and has deeper penetration, but the ammo may be becoming antiquated. The 9mm ammo is more available and is a better SD round. I own both.

about the cmp and the 1911's (upshot appears to be that they will be getting some, but nobody has any idea how much or when or anything else at this point)

11/30/15 An update on the 1911’s…

The NDAA 2016 has been signed into law, and we have no further information concerning the status of the 1911s at this time.

The Star Super B is a good deal. I got mine for less than $250 OTD earlier this year. My FiL liked it so much that he bought one too.

His CZ83 (in 380) is an excellent shooter and was less than $300 OTD.

I also got a Beretta 84 (380) earlier this year for around $250.

There are various places, such as AIM, to get pistols like these, but my favorite is CDI Sales on Gunbroker.

The Beretta Model 1934 isn't so much a surplus I suppose but it's not incredibly expensive. I got a great deal on a 1941 Army marked gun that has alot of the bluing eaten away in speckles, not sure from what (guy at the counter says blood, I don't know about all that jazz). For 225$ OTD i couldn't say no. Not sure if it's worth attempting to refinish or cold blue it for looks.

Anywho, The Super B is awfully enticing, P64's are abundant. AIM surplus has some israeli Hi-powers left, if it didn't take over a month to get a pistol permit here in Joisy I'd be ordering one for myself.

There are still some Beretta 92S surplus Italian police pistols available for around $300. They have an unusual magazine release location and the sights are the terrible military pistol sights of yesteryear, but they are accurate, quality pistols with mostly just holster and handling wear.

Everyone should have a Makarov. Mine happens to be commercial. It is a single-stack Russian one that I bought brand-new for $149 about twenty-five years ago.

There are still FEG High Power clones out there for reasonable prices. They were going for around $200 brand-new back before I had grey hair. This is a commercial one that I bought back then.
