What country made Mosin Nagants with the best fit and finish, specifically M44’s?

P.S. I don’t know a whole tone about Mosins.

The Polish M44s where the best imports that I have seen in a M44. For mosins as a whole, Finland had the best in the M39. Which is the last in the mosin line of evolution.

Polish M44's are considered the best 44's
Chinese T53's have a great trigger though
Finnish Mosins are considered the creme of the crop

good thread, i want to get a mosin, they are pretty cheap from what ive seen even at gun shows lol, im actually suprised i dont have one or three

Polish are the best M44's. Some would rank them as the best Mosins of any type.

The Finns never took to Mosin carbines, probably because they had too much flash and because they didn't encounter the urban combat zones that Soviet soldiers had to navigate. All the Finns tend to be good, but the M-28 and M-28/30 hold a special legendary status. Properly loaded they're probably the most accurate of all Mosins.

In some recent conversation with Chilean, I was shocked, and I mean shocked, to learn that a Mosin in Chile (where my wife was born) costs $800.00!!!!! Holy lowly, I only paid $79.00! Personally, I like the Russian Mosins, and have found all of mine to have excellent triggers, excellent metal/wood fit, etc. JMHO.

If you want a good Mosin?, get one that was captured by the Finns and revamped to make it better. If you want one that looks good ?(m44's)the Polish ones are usually nice.

I have a Finn 28/30 that I love. I haven't had a lot of opportunity to shoot it since I bought it, but hoping for the best.

Sadly, it had some bubba'ing done to it before I bought it. (drilled and tapped, bent bolt, and cut-down rear sight ears.

Sad due to the fact that the M28/30 is a pretty rare one.

I saw a Polish M44 at a gun show that looked brand new. Romanian M44s Ive seen look pretty good but I don't know how accurate either of them are. I have a Soviet M44 from 1948. The wood finish is eh, but the metal looks brand new with all stamped non-force matched #'s. Its quite accurate too.

Hello all, first post here.
Just wanted to make my first contribution to the forum. I'd second the opinion that Polish M44's are the best M44's available right now. Like most things, you'll pay a little more for the quality. I also agree that Finn mosins are ther creme of the crop when comparing mosins from different countries. M39's are about the nicest mosins commonly available. I disagree that M39's are the last mosin produced, however. The Finns still use the Tkiv 85 sniper rifle which, while modified, is built on original M1891 receivers.

Hey Jwarren, did you buy that 28/30 in Hattiesburg? I think I looked at that sad puppy and almost bought it. The stock was perfect, the bluing perfect, the bore beautiful. Made me oh-so-sad to look at it. At least it went to a good home.

Cosmo, the Finns did make a carbine, the M27rv for one, but you are right, they didn't fall in love with carbines. The Finnish Mosins are also the most rare, as you can sum the entire production of Finnish Mosins and discover that there were more M44's made in a hand full of years than the entire Finnish production.

I've had good luck getting regular Mosins at both SOG and AIM. For Finn, I would head to Wholesale Guns & Ammo, or at least, what is left of them.

The Doc is out now.

Ash,

Yep... that's the one. I picked it up at the Gun Show there.

It was only when I got home that I realized that the rear sight leafs had been shaved.

I was looking for a shooter, not a collector, so I don't feel that I got too bad a deal on it. Still, the bubba'ing is essentially beyond repair for the discerning eye of many.

The wood, before it was cut, was absolutely perfect, and the bluing was perfect, too. As a shooter, I imagine it is sweet. The 28/30, IMO, is the most accurate Mosin model ever made (even if the 39 has some features that make it a better battle rifle, but that is debatable).

silenced?

Has anyone ever threaded and silenced a MN 1891?
Yes, I know, it would be like 6 feet long, but might be worthwhile.
I guess corrosive ammo would be something to worry about...

Tyris, I've seen pictures of homebrew M91 based Mosins over in Finland fitted with silencers. Over there silencers are apparently seen as a way to minimize noise when using a firearm close to town and not as some tool of assassins. I've never seen a full military M91 with a silencer though. I don't believe they were deployed that way during the wars.
