Best most accurate inexpensive 22mag rifle?

I would prefer a stainless steel 22mag rifle but not absolute set on that. I want a very accurate rifle (near MOA) for shooting nutria rats, I will probably put a 4X scope on it. I am thinking a bolt action but would consider a pump if they exist or an auto. I have a REM 760 pump in 30.06 that is a near tack driver.

Is there a new rifle on the market in the $300-$400 range that would meet my needs.

Your suggestions are solicited.

I have a Marlin 25mn that I bought from a pawnshop. Metal was great, but some yahoo carved his name in the stock. Purchased for less than $100 and refinished the stock. It shoots very well.
 
My Marlin 25 mn has a cheap Simmons 3x9 that will shoot 1.5 moa. I bought the rifle years ago for about $120 new when a local K-Mart quit selling guns.
I am very pleased with it.
 
I used to have a Marlin 882ss that was an absolute tack driver. The trigger needed a LOT of work to get down from the Lawyer Approved 12lb pull, but for $80 used? I couldn't complain :)
 
I have the joy of living near Whittaker Guns ( www.whittackerguns.com ) and they sell the CZ 452 .22 mag for less than $400. They also carry the newer semi auto CZ .22 mag for just a little more.

ETA: I post this as they are nationally known for low CZ prices and ship a lot of guns.
 
I've had both the Savage and Marlin in .17HMR. Both were very accurate. The Marlin fed from the magazine better. The Savages are known for being finicky with feeding.

my savage 93 in 22 WMR shoots well under half inch at 50 yds and well under 1" at 100 yds. cost about $250 brand new. a stainless model will cost a little more.
 
Marlin or Savage will fit your needs. Dont overlook the used 22 mags section at the gun shop either.

In the 70's I had a marlin 22mag with a k-4 weaver that was lethal on coyotes. I gave it to my nephew years ago, now his son has it. You just cant wear a Marlin 22mag out..

I have a couple sitting in my safe still.

Dunno about 'new', but the most accurate 'old' gun I have seen in .22 mag is the Mossberg 640 series...640, 640K, 640KB, 640KS...

I gotta agree with you, those are nice rifles. Nice on varmints at "vermont ranges" aka <150 yards.

Mounted with the excellent S330 peep sights they are very nice and fun shooters. The trigger is a bit heavy (Ok extremely heavy), but with some patience that can easily be fixed. I love the quality of these older firearms; mine was slightly rusty and left in a barn for years, but the trigger assembly only had light surface rust because most of the metal was parkerized.
 
Well maybe Im the only one with a Ruger 10-22 target bull barel. With fed. match.22s I got less thn 1/2 an inch @50 yds. with a Bushnell 3-9x. Its a very fine shooter that its heavier than my ak47 but recoils a lot less than the standard carbine or my .22 air rifle. And the stock is beautyfull.It has a nice trigger with a short travel action. Maybe a bit expensive at 485.00 10 yrs ago here in Puerto Rico but I love it.

How far you shooting? If under 100yds why not a cheap 22LR?
You can get a single shot handi foe $200.
