Which are the better aftermarket nipples for the Uberti Walker and who carries them? Took my Uberti Walker out yesterday for the first firing and the caps would not stay on the nipples at all. Had to squeeze each one otherwise they would not stay on. The Walker functioned just fine with 40 grains of FFg, 454 round balls, and a wad over the charges. No other problems. The loading lever never fell down. What a hoot to shoot!!! :D

If the lever didnt fall down, you're not loading to power.
I use CCI #11 btw

Walker Nipples

I had the same problem, even #10s fell off. Change nipples, it's worth the trouble.

Try these: Go to the Track of theWolf web site, see: Gun Parts, Nipples, page 3, cat# RST-WA, $4.95 each - Ampco Bronze metal, the #11 caps seat nicely.

grey8833 Would those nipples work on a Uberti 1958 New Army Remington? I was at the range today shooting my Remy for the first time. Had her all loaded up and capped with #11 CCI caps. 30 grains of FFFg touched it off and POP!!! all the caps flew off! Tried #10 CCI caps and they also seemed to pop off more often than not!

Treso nipples. Remeber #11 and pinch the caps a tad to make them tight. also i usually use a small dab of grease on the sides of each nipple. So The caps do not fall off. Also helps on keeping the caps on the nipples after you pull the trigger. so caps do not fall into the works.

Uberti nipples must be really inconsistent.

My Walker has really small nipples - CCI #10 fit perfectly, everything else needs to be pinched to stay on.

My Remington, 1860, and 1851 - also Uberti - are too big for the CCIs. Remington #10 fits them real well, and RWS 1075s need just a little pinch.

Today, though, I took my new 3rd Dragoon out for the first time - and even though the nipples in it are supposedly the same as the Walker (same Uberti part number), they're too big for the CCIs too.

Nope. It's the caps.
There is no standard - one guys' No. 10 is not the same as another guy's No. 10. And a No. 11 may or may not be 'bigger' than a No. 10.

I measured several (at least 20 of each brand and size) and got these results:

Two comments are in order: the measurement of the opening is very difficult to make, so the three digit precision is misleading. The error is probably at least 0.002 to as much as 0.004; second, others have gotten quite different results, and I've found that different batches can vary greatly.

You don't get 0.001 precision for 4 cents apiece. The nipples cost a good deal more and are easier to make. It's not the nipples.

Um, no, in this case it's not the caps. The same tin of CCI 10s that are perfect on my Walker are too tight on the Dragoon.

The Walker nipples measure 0.155 at the tip; the Dragoon's are 0.162.

Well, I don't know. My Uberti '47 (Walker) came with nipples for # 11 caps and that's what I'vd always used. The manual also specified # 11's and I'vd always used Remington # 11 caps on it. Never had a problem and never had to pinch them or whatever. I'vd got a new '47 in the box that I'vd never loaded or fired and I certainly have no reason to think It would be any different. I have 6 extra cylinders and they all fire Remington # 11's just fine. There may be another type of problem contributing to what you consider your main problem here, but I have no idea what it could be....

Correction on my last post. I just went through the manual and it specified # 11's. It did NOT specify Remington's in particular. I always think Remington because those are the only caps I use or have ever used period, whether it's # 10 or # 11.
I was going through some operating instructions when I realized I had quoted the manual as specifying Remingtons. I appologize.
HOWEVER, that dosen't change the fact that an 1847 Uberti Walker call's for # 11 caps, which it will take just fine, UNLESS there was some mistake on the assembly line. I also just checked the one I have still in the box. #11's fit perfectly; tight and firm just like they're supposed to.
So, that give's me 2 '47's and 6 extra cylinders that all call for # 11 caps and # 11 caps fit all 8 cylinders perfectly. Good luck though. A piece that dosen't work right, first time and every time, is fit only to get you hurt or killed....

messerist:

I am not sure of anything except the Walker (Uberti Walker). I replaced the nipples with the Ampco (Tresco) nipples from Track. I use the RSW 1075 caps. Prior to changing the nipples I had trouble with the #10s from CCI (even pinched they fell off or jammed) and the 1075s from RSW (which just fell off). Paid the $ for the Tresco nipples, use the RSW 1075s I use on my rifle and no more problems.

Grey8833. Thanks for the info. I don't live too far from Track so I will call and see if those nipples will work on my Remy or if they have some that will. Good luck and if you can see the target through the smoke you ain't shooting enough!:)

Well, my Remington #11's work just fine on my '47 so I guess that me and Mr. Uberti will stick with what we'vd got....I'll tell ya'll what..If my '47 ever blow's up, or the cylinder get's loose or fall's out of the frame, or the nipple's get loose or soft or beaten up, or if the lever ever fall's from my use of 48 grains of Triple Seven (3fffg) or if the .457 swaged round lead ball ever get's stuck in that 9 inch steel pipe commonly referred to as a barrel, or get's stuck in one of the chambers and dosen't want to come out, or if the Remington #11's should all of a sudden become loose and show a tendency to fall off the nipples sized for #11 caps, or if the hammer should come flying off, or if just anything at all happen's to my '47 that make's me think that maybe Mr. Uberti didn't build it right, I will be sure and let ya'll know right away. In the meantime (with ya'll's permission of course) I will keep it loaded and capped all the way around and ready to go on a second's notice and I do so hope that ya'll won't mind too awful much if I buckle it on now and then when I need to step outside for whatever reason. All of you people seem to have such a wonderful and outstanding knowledge and understanding of the 1847 Uberti Colt Walker, why, I just don't think that I could bear it if I offended any of you....
