Best of the cheap Colt SAA clones?

And you can load all 6 chambers and rest the hammer between cylinders.
Which places the bolt at rest on the cylinder between the notches. Which leads to the dreaded cylinder ring. Not worth it for one extra shot, not my single actions!

Once again, agreeing with Craig.
Taylors does not "make" or assemble or finish guns.
Each importer specifies features & degree of finish they want, the Uberti factory builds 'em accordingly.

I'm new to the whole shooting game but I've got a mix of Uberti and Pietta guns for my cowboy action duties.

The two Uberti Reminton '58 clones are superbly made guns dating back around 12 years ago to when they were born. My Pietta cartridge guns in .38 are newer and new with even the oldest only being 5 years old.

At one time Uberti led the way for quality. But Pietta seems to have caught up in the last few years and both myself from personal experience as well as the black powder gang here at THR seem to agree that Pietta has come up to Uberti's quality in recent years. Even to the point where some of the black powder clan prefer one brand for certain models over the same from the other brand. I know that my two '73 Pietta clones give up nothing either externally or internally to my older C&B Uberti Remingtons. Fit, finish and trigger are superb. Not too light, not too heavy and only a hair of creep right out of the box.

Ruger's are also great guns and deserve every bit of their reputation. But they are just "a wolf in sheep's clothing" if you're looking for a true 4 click original style Colt action. They may well be A single action but they are not a proper copy of THE single action... :D

Hmm. There seems to be FAR more opinions on Pietta and Uberti than on the specific importers (which I have been told can vary quite a bit even if they're both from the same "parent" manufacturer).

Maybe I need a more effective way to ask the question or I should ask on a SASS forum.

"Cowboy guns"

My primary SASS revolver is a Ruger stainless Vaquero Bisley .45C. My crossdraw is a Ruger stainless Vaquero birdshead in .45C
In the cowboy shooting matches you have to load 5 even in a Ruger. I like the ability to load 6, especially since I enjoy carrying my birdshead as a CCW.

The Uberti-made Beretta Stampede has a transfer bar. Aside from that, it's identical to the standard Ubertis
Rumor has it that the Stampede's transfer bar design doesn't hold up especially well in SASS competition. The Heritage is a Pietta-made gun that also uses a transfer bar.

And you can load all 6 chambers and rest the hammer between cylinders. Old gun slinger trick.

wouldn't you be running the risk of shearing off the end of the firing pin or having it ride up on to a live round, seeing as the cylinder is free to rotate in that position?

Another vote here for the EAA Bounty Hunter. 4.5" or 7.5" barrels in .357 Mag, .44 Mag and .45 Colt plus a combo .22LR/.22 Mag in six or eight shot. The cylinder of the Bounty Hunter is 1.76" long (with recessed rims) and nearly the same diameter as a S&W N-frame so it'll handle loads a lot of clones can't. Nickel, blue or color-case finish.
A pretty good value for $350-$365 new.

Found this on the EAA Bounty Hunter.
It IS the old Hawes Western Marshall.

Those guns were made by the folks who now make the Sig pistols. When sig got out of the six shooter business they sold the tooling and machinery for the western marshall line to Weirauch.

Its the same gun. Hawes was just the American importer who marketed the gun. When they went under, FIE started importing it, calling it the Bounty Hunter.

That would make them cousin to the Herter's PowerMag since those were also produced by Sauer & Sohn. Interesting.

The Bounty Hunter is an upgraded Arminius which came after the Hawes and is a sort-of cousin to the Sauer and Sohns Herter's PowerMag. As far as I know, parts will not interchange though. The address and full name of the company is, Hermann Weihrauch Revolver GmbH, Postfach 25, 97634 Mellrichstadt. Their phone number is (+49)9776-707678. They are presently imported by EAA.
John Taffin has been to the factory and owns a specially serial numbered .45 Colt. Paco Kelly uses them and did a write-up on one of his .357's...

Bob Munden does his Option 1 action jobs on them and knows them inside and out. Colt stocks will fit them. They do have a flat mainspring/transfer-bar ignition and will not take things like fanning.
