Best (or cheapest) CCW class in Tucson, Az?

I'm moving to Tucson around the end of the year and my out of state CCW permit becomes invalid as soon as I'm a legal resident (after 30 days?). I'm going to be visiting in March, well before I move, and was thinking of trying to take a CCW class and applying for a permit while I was in town.

Any suggestions for who to take a class from? Google turned up several options.

Will it be a problem if I apply for a permit before I move in state? Eg., will they issue a non-resident permit that will become invalid upon entering into the state? I assume that if that's the case, I can just take the class and wait to submit the application.

I took mine at Marksman Pistol, it cost $60 for the class/fingerprinting.

Then you have to spend another $60 for the application to the DPS

The classes at the Pima County range (near the county fairgrounds near Houghton and I-10) used to be free. There might be some contact info linked off these page. A call could confirm if they still offer CCW classes at the range.

You might want to check out getting a Utah non-resident CCW. A bit more expensive, but I'm told they're good in around 38 - 40 states.

kiko1, I checked on that already and AZ will recognize the Utah permit as long as your NOT a resident of AZ. In fact AZ will recognize any state's valid permit. However, all AZ residents must have an AZ permit.

I guess the Utah non-resident CCW would be beneficial to those who travel a bit.

Speaking of the Utah CCW permit, does someone offer a Utah CCW class in Tucson? According to Handgunlaw.us, Nevada doesn't honor the AZ permit. WA also will accept the Utah permit but not the AZ one, which is important for me. My WA permit will be up for renewal in a couple of years anyways.

Just another input - Arizona law requires that one be an Arizona resident OR a U.S. citizen to be eligible for an Arizona CCW . . . my brother, who used to live here but currently lives in Georgia, took the class and applied for his as a U.S. citizen when he was back over Christmas. He hasn't received it yet, but DPS says on their website that they are backlogged with new permit applications. So you SHOULD be able to get a permit now, even though you are not an AZ resident yet. Good luck.

P.S. - I think Marksman will give you a free 30-day range pass if you take their class. At least they used to do that when I got mine, years ago.

I really should call DPS. I was concerned if I applied for the AZ ccw with an out of state address that it would be issued as a non-resident permit that would become invalid as soon as I become a resident.
