Google box o truth as they have done many many penetration tests. Bottom line, anything for home defense will zip right through the walls into the next room (and almost always beyond that). Doesn't matter what you are using including birdshot. Keep ammo you are using and remember that you have to hit your target and to mind the backstop.

This thread remonds me of one posted awhile back about what is the the "quietest" caliber. As if there are some that won't damage your eardrums. Eez GUN! Eez DANGEROUS! Will shoot through walls and kill people on other side. Accept it.

12 gauge with bird shot.

Since birdshot only penetrates 4"-6" in soft tissue and will be deflected by ribs at COM, I'd go with a good standard pressure JHP and be done with it.
