I moved house recently and I have a small 10-gun safe that weights about 150lbs. I am wondering where to put it in the house.

I could put it in the basement but I am worried about a flood or the water heater valve popping or something like that. Also worried about moisture/rust from the sump pump hole and floor drain. And should I bolt it to the concrete floor, the concrete wall or some exposed wall studs down there?

The other option is bolting it to the wall in a closet upstairs. But I worry a smart criminal would go to garage, get a saw and simply cut it out.

Third option is bolting it to the garage floor, but I would prefer to have it somewhere where people don't see it.

Possible, but not likely, given the time and noise to do this. More likely, he'd just take a pry bar to the "safe" (metal cabinet?). Installing in the corner of a room can make it harder to pry the door open or pry the safe away from the wall.

If a basement flood is a concern, put the safe on a platform and secure to the wall. Moisture/humidity can be addressed by a Golden Rod heater or various adsorption media. But if the basement is constantly damp, upstairs would be better.

I also vote for the basement on some kind of platform if water is a concern. Bolt it to the floor and walls.

Maybe hide it behind a stack of empty (or not empty) cardboard boxes.

Bolt it down in a bedroom closet that is NOT in your master bedroom. Master bedrooms are the first place to be tossed by the bad guys.

Hide it but not in the master bedroom. One that size might fit in the end of the closet with two walls to bolt it to.

This method HAS worked for me.

Is the basement humid? Id at the very least put a dehumidifier rod in the safe if it was down there.

I didnt have the basement option here so I choose to put mine which is a full size cannon brand in a spare bedroom. Mine is large enough it would take 3 or 4 guys to even budge it without moving equipment.
I placed it there because it is up against a outer wall of my house and if the house catches on fire and burns down the safe wont be sitting in the middle of the house taking the full heat of the fire on all sides for however long it took them to get it put out.
