I'm in the market for five SKS rifles. Looking for new or near new condition with NO cosmoline. :)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

hmm, not sure i have any more advice than a place like classic arms, atlantic, gunbroker, or the other places that you could probably find on google.

im just curious, why is the cosmo a deal breaker?

Cosmoline is just a hassle... and I don't have the time. I'd rather pay a few extra bucks for a cosmo free rifle.

I've checked out GunsAmerica, Gunbroker, etc. Everyone seems to have onsies and twosies... but I'd like to secure five in one fell swoop.

At first (and only at this point) look, this looks suspicious doesn't it? "I need five guns... fast!"

Whoa, slow down there friend. Nowhere in my post did I say "I need five guns... fast!" as you have quoted me as saying. Respectfully, I do not like being referred to as "suspicious", I don't like being misquoted, and I don't think my post warrants you needing to give me "the benefit of the doubt."

Thank you for the CDNN link. I will certainly check that out.

We're supposed to stock up for the rest of our lives this year (ie., Obama, Hillary, and McCain). Correct? Wish I could buy 5 SKS's right now, sounds like a smart investment. I'd still probably look for the lowest price and 'bite the bullet' on cosmoline. Good luck bro.

Nope, not getting married! I am already happily married with three great kids.

Yes on the election year. Good to get stocked up now I think. Also, there is not an infinite supply of SKS rifles. From what I can tell prices on SKS rifles have close to doubled in the past few years. What will the next few years hold?

Yes too on the farm gun. You can never have too many rifles handy.

You might want to get a C&R license. Then you could order the SKS rifles and have them shipped directly to your door. Otherwise, you may have to pay an FFL fee on each one (depending on your local FFL). So if you aren't going with a C&R (which is usually $30 for there years), then call up a local FFL and confirm what he charges per FFL (multiple rifles) so you don't take a bath.

Classicarms might give you a discount for buying five. The price would be between $179 and $199 per rifle. Southern Ohio Gun or Aim surplus would be another route.

From a collector's point of view, if you were going to get five- you might want to spend a little more coin and get some variety, Russian, Chinese, etc. :scrutiny:

I bought a sks from J&G Sales a while back that was pretty cosmo free. They'd probably let you know what to exspect

I don't know if they will be cosmo free- but Aimsurplus is a pleasure to work with and you might be able to talk to them about a custom order where you get clean or nearly clean rifles. 5 of any kind of firearm is a respectable sized purchase that I'm sure they'd want to try to help find a solution

Hey man, relax. The quick tone just struck me as funny. That's all. I didn't think you were up to no good.

My apologies for any offense.

You think that's bad...Look at the price of ammo for the SKS.
I originally purchased the SKS and 1000 rounds of chinese ammo (the nice wooden crate) for +/- $180.00
NOW just the ammo is in the 325.00 to 375.00 range +/- for 1000 rds.
Sickening.
And the price just keeps going up...

On a side note: it's been said that the price is not going up, the dollar is going down, but either way, this pricing has severely cut into my time at the range for everything I shoot.

J&G still lists 'Excellent' Yugos. If you don't have one, as said, a C/R type 3 FFL is only 30 bucks and ususally takes <6 weeks to process.

You'd save on the purchase, could deal direct on the Yugo type that way, etc.

IIRC--the Yugos came into the country five to a crate mixed in with some cleaning accesories and ammo pouches, oilers, slings etc---your best bet would be to call the main line Yugo sellers and ask if they have a crate's worth to sell.

I doubt the price (now up to about 250.00) will go much higher as low-end AK's aren't much more expensive.

To my thinking, the biggest problem will be the cosmo-free requirement; it takes a good deal of detail-oriented labor to clean all that nasty gunk out of a SKS if it's being done right---if the added cost is no problem (figure at least an extra 50 per rifle) I'm sure that could be set up. Or get them in the cosmo and hire a guy locally you trust that knows the weapon. The 'nice' yugos ALL came in just soaked in that stuff; I spent so long cleaning the first one (a good day off-and-on) that the second one is still waiting--now for over two years--for its turn.

Good Luck

Cosmo sucks! I just bought a Yugo SKS that was absolutely soaked. It took about 4-5 hours to clean, and there is still some left in random nooks that I keep on finding. Good luck getting them cosmo free.

If you're looking to stock up on rifles, I wouldn't worry too much about cosmoline, since you probably won't use them for a while. Once a month or so, when you have the time, you could clean one up and eventually they would all get cleaned up.
