Best prices for 9mm ammo?

There is a new Dick's near me in Brighton, I may go check it out.

Just a few facts to ponder: Current distributor prices for 9MM ammunition are higher than Wally World's everyday price. The problem with Wally World is that they take a very large percentage of Winchesters production and only offer about a dozen low priced products. What happens when you need the odd box of let's say 30 Luger or 45 Win. Mag. that Wal Mart doesn't carry. The dealer that used to be profitable with ammunition no longer stocks much and will most likely not have what you need. And for the reloaders out there that don't have a store that stocks powder you'll have the Haz-Mat charge on each shipment of powder or primers you wish to try. Want to try a pound of new powder? BAM! $ 20.00 Haz-Mat fee. Kinda makes the higher prices of your local dealer look cheap doesn't it. The loss of distribution is of major concern to all manufacturers in the firearms industry and their alliances with Wal-Mart will come back to haunt them if it hasn't already. Lots of ways to make $ : One online/mail order/walk in operation mails over 2 million catalogs a year to potential buyers and generates about a 30% order rate on those mailings. They sell products at distributor cost or maybe a little over which your local dealer can't match but then they add handling fees which average about $6.00 per order. The bottom line is $ 6.00 times 600,000 orders is 3,600,000 bucks and is actually more than the profit they made on the merchandise you bought. This operation claims to be a distributor but sells to the public at the same price as they sell to dealers thereby protecting their business which in reality is selling order fees to mail order or on-line customers. Continued consolidation of the firearms industry puts more pressure on the small dealer who tries to serve your needs by having product on hand for you to peruse and in most cases will provide good information for you to base your buying decisions on. If you continue to support Wal-Mart and at cost on-line distributors that earn income with service fees, that decision will eventually come back to haunt you too.

Yup, Dicks has a sale this week, $5.98 here is case lots and $6.98 in smaller orders. The Rem/UMC isn't bad, a little dirtier than some but for the price it's pretty cheap plinking ammo.

YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT!

Confederate X2 on Wal-Mart (tm). NONE of my local gun shops can compare on prices. NONE of the mail order/Net ammo suppliers can compare WHEN you figure in the awful shipping rates. The only exception I know of might be dansammo.com, which features free shipping East of the Miss. River, but then you still have to buy at least 500 rounds, simply impossible on my budget. :cuss:

Two Pistol Packer, considered the venerable old man at ktog.org, says the Win white box "Personal Protection" 115 grn. JHPs expand much better than Rem/UMC's 115 grn. JHPs in his wetpack tests. Sadly, "Wally" is cutting down on inventory and the 115 WWB PPs are getting hard to find. I don't want the 147 grn. alternative, which is subsonic. :banghead:

I'm generally willing to pay up to 15% more for ammo to support my local gun dealers. More than that and I look to the Internet. Rarely buy at Wal-Mart but have purchased some bulk .22 there on occasion.
