i have decided to try a new recoil pad on my Marlin 1895g 45/70 guide gun before i do a muzzle brake. it has a pad on it fron the factory, but if there is a better one out there, i wouldn't have to mess with a muzzle brake. hopefully, i will not have to spend the $200.00 to have this done. i am looking for the best recoil pad for this, the one that will absorb the most energy. cost is secondary, but i will not spend more than $50 clams for one. please vote for your favorite pad, and if it is not on the list, do a write in campaign! thanks.

I'd vote for the Decelerator pad since I've used it on a Marlin 45/70.

Marlin puts them on their 1895XLR model, which my father-in-law has. Felt recoil really isn't a problem with that pad (and the extra weight of the rifle).

I voted Decelerator just because it looks better. I have it and I have a Limbsaver and they both work just as well, but my Decelerator was installed by a gunsmith and it is just a really nice looking recoil pad.

Neither.

Cabelas Shooter's Friend. Best pad on the market. Makes the limbsaver feel like concrete.

All those pads work. Kick-eez is probably the stickiest, but Slick-Eez (which I recommend for any pad if you want to tune up where and how it grabs your shoulder) solves excess "stick". Limbsavers really work. I haven't tried the Cabela's; it's hard to imagine a Limbsafer feeling like concrete, but I'll have to check those out when I go by a Cabela's!

For a rifle, though, I'd give Pachmayr a serious look, since they offer so much variety in thicknesses and surfaces. Also, they have reddish-brown pads that would look good on the Marlin.

Limbsaver. I like the looks of the Decelerators, but for function... Limbsaver. The last time I checked, the Remington R3 was a Limbsaver. :)

Limbsaver.

Remington R3 is made by Limbsaver. Same/same.

I can't imagine what the Cabela's pad is likel, if the Limbsaver is considered to be concrete.
I have to find a Cabela's.

Pachmayr offers functionality, too. Their pads are available with all sorts of surfaces, so you can decide whether you want a pad that sticks to your shoulder, or one that slides into place when you shoulder it fast, or somewhere in between.

Limbsavers don't have that variety. But Limbsavers do tame recoil.
