Hello everyone. I have a Marlin 336 lever action rifle that I love to shoot. The only problem is that it came with a plastic butt plate on it instead of a recoil pad to lessen the recoil that is felt from shooting it. With the plastic plate you feel everything, and it feels like it has more of a kick than some of my larger rifles. I have been looking online for recoil pads that would fit my 336 and I have found predominately 1 recoil pad over and over. That would be the Limbsaver Speed Mount Pad for the Marlin 336.

I want to find a recoil pad that reduces some of the recoil, that fits well on the wooden stock of my Marlin 336 so there is no wood on the butt of the gun showing around the sides of the pad, and something that is worth the money!

My questions is has anyone bought one of these Limbsaver Speed Mount Pads? If so, how did it work out on your gun? Was there reduced recoil, did it fit well on the stock, and was there any wood showing on the butt of the gun after the pad was installed because the pad was not big enough to cover the entire butt of the stock? Also, if you have bought any type of recoil pad for your Marlin 336, what was it, was it worth it, and where can I find it?

Any opinions, information or websites with recoil pads would be appreciated. Thank you!

I can't give you any direct information on installing a recoil pad on a Marlin 336, but you can see a wide variety of pads at www.midwayusa.com. I might also suggest having a gunsmith fit and install a pad of your choice. The work doesn't cost much, and will look way way way better than slapping one on without fitting.

I had that problem with a Winchester 94 in .44 Mag. I had a gunsmith fit a small pad to it. Turned out great.

I have A limbsaver on my 1895 GS 45-70. It does A good job or reducing felt recoil. The prefit #10102 fit mine well.
I can't understand wanting one on A 30-30 though.

You would be surprised about the 30 30 recoil. Out of a light rifle with a steel butt plate or just a hard one, you will be feeling it if you shoot a bunch in a row. Then again, it may just be that I am pretty skinny lol. I vote for the pachmeyer, or one of those slip on ones from walmart in a pinch.
