best red dot for a 10/22?

Note: That I'm not looking for a budget red dot, but one that may have a high entry price but will last me a good while.

I'm gonna mount a red dot on my 10/22 after I zero the stock irons again, I was gonna put a scope on it but I decided that if I needed precision out of a .22lr my Marlin XT-22 would shoot circles around my 10/22.

If it is decent during the iron sight zeroing process I'm gonna reward the little gun with a red dot.

What I want to know is what is the best long lasting red-dot I can get on my 10/22 (No Aimpoint/EOtech please ) for under $300.

I don't mind paying a high entry price if it out lasts the gun and can be placed on another rifle if I feel the need.

It may also be worth saying that the gun will be used to shoot steel plates and dueling trees for pure FUN-FACTOR, it will also be used to get newbies into shooting.

Bushnell TRS-125 for $90 has been used on my AR15 and has withstood the battering of my Mosin Nagant and still runs perfectly with no loss of zero.

KDD - do you wear glasses?
If so, you might have a problem with a red-dot, esp. if the sun is behind you.
My elderly mother has a Marlin with a cheap red-dot ($22 "L"-shaped design) on it that she uses for popping turtles, muskrats, and snakes on her property. She frequently does this from the elevated deck which faces north with the sun behind us. As we are shooting at a downward angle, the sun frequently is coming in over our shoulders and I get a faint image of the sky behind me on the red-dot's screen. She's 6" shorter and doesn't have a problem with the sight nor does she wear glasses.
If the red-dots you look at are of a "tube-type" rather than an open "L" shape, you might be OK.

With the weaver/picatinny mount, it will mount to the factory Ruger base. I use a FastFire II on a 10/22 and a Ruger Charger. I have a Vortex SPARC - decent optic, but too large for a 10/22, in my humble opinion. Currently, mine is on one of the "boat paddle" 10/22 all-weather models.

I had a millet red dot that fell apart.
cheapo tasco red dot that wanders a little bit
2 cheap truglo's that had a large fuzzy dot but held up very well.
bushnell tr-25 that I like a lot right now. it, like all red dots I've tried, is pretty dependent on where your head is. I guess that is parallax? regardless, as long as you keep the dot in the center of the glass it stays on target. dots don't like bright sun much either. I eventually pulled the dots off my 22's and installed some williams peeps rear and fire sight fronts.
