its been a year or two since I’ve posted much but I think this deserves a bit of attention for those not familiar with these components. As far as I’m concerned every piece is as good as it gets.

Impact action and brake
Foundation stock w/arca rail
Bartlein bbl
Triggertech diamond single stage trigger
Nightforce atacr 7-35x in spuhr mount
(Harris and atlas bipods with arca adapters not shown)
Chambered in 6dasher

15 rounds at 100yd, 105g JLK
it was a tighter group at the beginning, but i think i was drooling too much on the stock and started getting sloppy.

Impact action and brake
this action is pretty amazing. running the bolt on it compared to my surgeons and bighorns (and any other action I've tried) feels so much better, as if it requires much less force to cock the action. this means the gun isn't disturbed nearly as much and you can get back on target faster. lots of little features like trigger hanger, etc make it worth serious consideration. also, it's machined so consistently, several gunsmiths are making pre-fit barrels for it (already headspaced, just screw it on. not like savage bbl nut) but you should get barrels from stuteville precision

Foundation stock w/arca rail
after years of chasing chassis and other types of stocks, i'm back to the more traditional mcmillan-type, except with an enormous leap in materials. i'm kind of amazed how well their material feels under recoil and in the hand. it's heavy and perfectly balanced. and the accessories like the arca rail on the bottom mean i can mount a bipod or tripod anywhere on the fore-end. (still waiting on an EFR style NV mount... *cough*cough*)

Bartlein bbl
nothing new, but fantastic as always

Triggertech diamond single stage trigger
learning to shoot a rifle in old high power days, where 2-stage triggers were a must, with a 4.5lb weight limit for service rifle, I stuck with 2-stage triggers (x-treme / cg jackson style) for all my previous bolt guns and loved them. I've ventured into new territory here and it feels alien to me so far and the 11 oz weight actually feels heavy to me since the 2nd stage on my old triggers was set usually around half a pound. but it is crisp and i can't feel any over travel. I think I'm going to like it.

Nightforce atacr 7-35x in spuhr mount
definitely the best scope on the market today. glass is great; almost S&B quality. focus is sensitive like S&B (some may not like this but I do). 35x is pretty cool, though i mostly shoot it in the familiar 15-25x range. Knobs are remarkably similar to the old S&B DT turrets, crisp, with a zero stop, but adds a covered windage knob, which is perfect. NF reliability

I love this round. So little recoil. My crosshairs move less than a mil under recoil. And it's so easy to load consistent ammo. I cleaned, as I always do after the first round on this barrel. The second round had a bit of cleaning fluid in it. Rounds 3,4,5,6 were 3 fps ES CC194899-D170-4407-987B-9572BA9A283D.jpeg

....and the scope mount. That is one heavy duty looking scope mount. This gun just reeks of being built to shoot well.

http://www.spuhr.biz/ideal-scope-mount-system the mfg website is borderline unreadable but there are lots of retail outlets in the US where you can buy them. it's a great mount for NV (PEQ15) and LRFs. see post 18 in this thread for example on my previous rifle of the silencerco LRF mounted above the scope, which imho, is the only reason you'd pay that much for scope rings when a set of steel tally's will hold just as well. but the built in bubble level and leveling tool are handy https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/battle-of-breakneck.802655/#post-10244193

Years ago I was into precision rifles and though I don't shoot them anymore I still follow them. This is the ultimate here. The 800 pound gorilla in the forest. Priced accordingly and I would venture to say worth every penny.

i hope you got that rifle on a good discount...the bolt handle is on the wrong side!

all kidding aside, that is one beautiful setup, and some EXCELLENT shooting!!!

thanks guys. i really like the aesthetic too (looks like wood stock even though it's a laminate). i'm just going to tell people it's my deer rifle.

eh, i don't even want to think about what I've got in it. although mine was a build and took 6 months because i'm left handed, you can buy the same rifle from stuteville for $4500. sometimes it's even in stock. https://www.stutevilleprecision.com/product-page/e1036-r0207 (plus the arca rail, and misc other stuff like magazines and brake)

spuhr mounts are usually $400ish but i got those off a prize table.
the NF retails for $3400 or so but i got it used for just a bit less
the RRS tripod stuff is just out of control

Well, the RRS tripod might be nuts, but I got the head new in box for $250 or so (someone's wife bought them a gift now knowing he'd already bought the head, so I god a discount. ;) )

That thing is so pretty it's hard to make a comment. I've shot one like that before owned by a friend that you probably know who facilitates the Heat Stroke competition and it was really sweet. It wouldn't help me much with the type of hunting that I do but it was really something to try to see something from the other side of the spectrum. I was about as comfortable with it as I would be driving a high dollar sports car. I still drive a 1981 Jeep CJ-7 and my rifles are comparable to the Jeep.

yep, the heat stroke is a great match! I've shot it a few times. The action and stock are both made in OK, and stuteville is there too.

taliv, one thing about that heat stoke area, the wind is really tough. I would like to try it again when the wind isn't blowing. The rifle that I shot was a 6Dasher that had a Surgeon action and a Studeville barrel, and I think the stock was made in California. I really like the color of your stock. I had a stock made by McMillan in OD green but now I wish I had selected the color that you chose. It was available. My friend is now hung up on a 6.5 Saum.

Nice rifle, doubt Walmart has the ammo on hand...My old Ruger M77 in .257 Roberts is my go to rifle nowadays at my age of 64. I have lots of nice rifles like Ruger No. 1s, Winchester model 70s and other nice rifles....guess I am old school and stick to old reliables.

bad idea for the heatstroke. the match director thinks you should shoot 350-400 rounds in 2 days. that recoil may not seem like much for 5 rounds, but after 300, i'll bet he's not going to shoot nearly as tight as he was morning of day 1

Very nice rig Taliv and excellent shooting. I love that stock.

If I recall you were originally going with a straight 6mmBR and leaning away from the Dasher due to the extra work associated with fire forming for that cartridge.

What changed your mind? Are you buying pre hydroformed brass?

Either way, the results indicate it was the right choice!

thanks! umm... rumor has it the people doing the hydroforming from 6br to dasher are buying up all the 6br brass. i couldn't find any in stock anywhere. but there was a ton of factory norma dasher brass heavily discounted at bullets.com as they were going out of business, so i bought it and went the dasher route instead. it was kind of a risky decision because the reviews of that brass were quite poor, but bullets.com claimed it was a second run that fixed those problems.

From your chrono data it looks like you're not pushing them as hard as some guys do. That might be why they were complaining.

Good luck. Keep us updated
