Winchester 94 Big Bore .356 or .375 or the above mentioned 1895. For a boltgun, the little Ruger .338RCM (bottom) would be perfect! Receiver sights for all.
There is a reason that those old Winchesters work well in a saddle scabbard, they are flat sided. I would like a bigger caliber than a 30/30 for elk if I could though. I can't argue against it as it has undoubtedly killed plenty of elk in the 120 years it has been available. An '86 in 47/70 or a '95 in .405 should be great elk medicine.
