Can any hunters please give an opinion on the Mossberg mvp patrol in .308 to fit OP's requirements?

There is always the option of the Winchester 1895. Any of the cartridges for which it was chambered would work for elk.

Winchester 94 Big Bore .356 or .375 or the above mentioned 1895. For a boltgun, the little Ruger .338RCM (bottom) would be perfect! Receiver sights for all.

There is a reason that those old Winchesters work well in a saddle scabbard, they are flat sided. I would like a bigger caliber than a 30/30 for elk if I could though. I can't argue against it as it has undoubtedly killed plenty of elk in the 120 years it has been available. An '86 in 47/70 or a '95 in .405 should be great elk medicine.
