Any advice for the best scope for my WBY 300 WIN MAG? What about Leupold, Nikon, Zeiss or Swarowsky scopes? Thanks.

I can vouch for the clarity, mechanical accuracy, and trim dimensions of the Swarovski Z3 3-10X42 that now lives on my Cooper M52 in .280 AI. Great scope.

nikon monark or lupold vx-3 are both great budget scopes. especially with the BDC or the boone & crocket reticals. but they are not in the same class as the zeiss or sworovski. but there's a huge price gap there. what and where will you use the rifle?

A very open ended question. What is your budget? What are your intended uses?

All you listed are good. For my money I'd buy a Leupold 3.5-10X40 on a rifle intended for long range hunting. Other scopes may be slightly better optically, but the Leupolds tend to be more smaller and lighter which is important on a rifle you carry to hunt with. They tend to be tougher than woodpecker lips too.

well said I own a few lupold and nikon scopes. I have yet to have trouble with either. I think nikon may have a bit better glass but, I have heard from several good sources that lupold is a little stouter. but like I said I've never had either fail. but I stick to monark and vx-3

Can't go wrong with the VX-3 line. I have an older Vari-X III 2.5-8X36 that has been on several rifles. The rifles may go away, but that little scope stays. It is solid, bright, compact, and generally useful. Not as refined optically as my Swarovski, but it didn't cost nearly as much.

Assuming that this is a hunting rifle (I believe this is a fair assumption) and not used for non-dangerous species, I would use a Zeiss Conquest (I don't see the need for anything better for hunting), Sightron S-IIBS, Leupold VX-III, Vortex Viper, Bushnell Elite 4200, or Nikon Monarch. Any of the above, roughly in order of preference, in the 2-4x on the low end, with a moderate sized objective (36-44mm) should serve you well.

:)

For the price, I like the Leupold VX-3 in either 3.5-10 or in 4.5-14. I personally had a Vari-X III, 3.5-10AO on my .300 Wea Mag. However, the AO is no longer an option on that power range.

I have a Nikon Monarch 8-32x50 with the BDC reticle. I have no complaints at all and I can shoot accurately out to 600 yards with it no problem.

Make sure you have a scope that has a lifetime warranty. A scope mounted on a magnum caliber hasa higher probability of being internally damage from recoil . Having that guarantee they fix it will save big bucks down the road.

My vote would be a Nikon Monarch.

I helped a friend once with his 300 weatherby and he had this Cabela's pine ridge scope that we put on it. Within one box of shells the cross hairs went all blurry and it wouldn't adjust anymore. I suggested that he send it back to Cabela's and trade up to a Leupold, which he did and we had no more problems after that. Leupold has a machine called the mangler, which does recoil testing and they claim to have swept high end Austrian made scopes out of there with a broom!

I don't believe it...at least not repeatably, or they are playing on an inherent weakness that is not typical to the abuse that a riflescope might be subjected to. I have heard about, and seen 1st hand, a great deal more low-end Leupolds (mostly Riflemans, but VX-Is as well) than I have S&B, Zeiss, Swaro, IOR-Valdada, et al (come to think of it, I have only heard of one account of an IOR being damaged, the others having a flawless reputation for reliability). That said, the VX-3s have a reputation for withstanding abuse just as well (and the VX-IIs aren't that bad either).

:)

I've read some poor reviews of the IOR stuff.

I've also heard people say their experience is that Zeiss and Nightforce take recoil better than Swarovski...of course Swarovski is that "Austrian scope"

Of course you know....this is all internet speak, so take it with a block of salt

I have heard one bad review, though I am certain that there are more...for any of 'em. Every manufacturer has a lemon from time to time. Anyway, the Germans, Austrians, and Romanians build pretty high quality stuff IME. BTW, the "Austrian scope" could be a Kahles, but you are probably correct.
